Just so I am aware of what to look for (as I know the tattoos I have are not the best but would not be able to give full reasons why) what are the things wrong in each tattoo so I can do a proper training of my eye so when I look through other artists’ portfolios I know what to look for other than I like their work.
Welcome to forum:-)
Well, it would be an immediate improvement just to find a tattooist that can draw.
Your bass is probably the worst of your tattoos (at least from what I can see on your pics), and for several reasons. It’s incredibly uneven, all of it. He forgot the neck entirely, with the strings just floating in the air between the body and the head. The body it self is horrendously poorly drawn, and although it seems to suppose to be a Fender, I doubt he’s ever actually seen one. The ‘wine’ around the guitar looks like it was something that was there before, or slapped on as an afterthought, and the roses are just… not roses.
Then if you look at the poly symbol, you can see all the uneven lines, where he went off and started again, very uneven thicknesses, and the filling seems to be incomplete, although that’s difficult to say because of how fresh and shiny it is.
Your best one is probably the Love one, and that’s still all kinds of uneven and shaky.

So how would you go about telling the person doing the tattoo that you are going to have someone else finish it?

Unless he’s your personal friend, I see no reason for you to tell him at all. Just don’t make another appointment with him. Your biggest concern, however, will be finding a proper artist that’s willing to try to salvage that thing.

What area of the world do you live in maybe we can help guide you to a better artist.
Welcome! Very nice tattoos. I’m considering getting some kind of ancient egyptian tatoo on my shoulder but I have no idea if I want a hieroglyphic lettering style or maybe just some characters.
St Louis, MO. From what research I’ve been doing recently would probably end up going to Cheap Trix. From what I’ve gathered it has the best reputation in the area.

Anyone there work is way better then you have been using except Randy M.

His work is super solid Kyle A. Scarborough: SAINT LOUIS TATTOO COMPANY
Skipper or scarborough both are miles ahead of anyone you are currently using.
Being a burlesque dancer you should really take your time finding an artist. Considering your scantily clad by profession you should only use top shelf artists. Good luck on your search for a new artist!
Also try looking into local conventions in your area and scheduling artists whose caliber goes beyond what is locally available.
