I was on vacation in Las Vegas and went hiking about 30 miles south in the area of Sandy Spring along the Ca/NV border.
There were these rocks near some abandonded mines(gold?)
I took some home and polished them.
They are very soft, easily scratched by feldspar.
It bubbles very slightly with concentrated HCl from the hardware store and not at all with dilute.
The color pattern is interesting. Can someone explain the pattern and what it might be.
I thoughy initially it was limestone but my limestone and calcite fizzes like crazy in HCl in this barely reacts.
