I just got a new tattoo today.. My aftercare instructions from the (very well respected) tattoo artist was to use a simple unscented moisturizing lotion such as Aveeno, Lubriderm, etc.. I’ve been using Eucerin calming creme (no fragrance) but it really burns when I put it on. Is this normal?

no change lotions. It’s not suppose to hurt when you put it on. If it doesn’t get better go talk to your tattoo artist about what you should do.

you could try switching brands. i’ve had multiple tattoos and only once did it ever burn and that only lasted for about 2 days. it was the latest addition to my back piece and i had used the same lotion when i had the first portion done. i was using vaseline intensive rescue, which is hypoallergenic and unscented lotion. in my opinion the burning may be caused from the skin being over worked.

same here, go get udder balm at a southern states or ace hardware store, i dont know if walmart would have it or not. its great for burns, scraches cuts ect even if its made for cows and goats, great for dry chapped hands, put it on your hand at night and then wear cotton gloves to bed, also great for chapped heels on your feet.

No it’s not normal, you may be having some sort of reaction to it. I would suggest you use Bepanthem, it’s widely used and recommended where I’m from and it’s actually nipple/ baby rash antiseptic cream but I’ve found it to be the best ever, and I have a few tattoos myself.
