Might be a long shot, but I’m gonna throw this out anyway –

I’m thinking about my first tattoo, but I’ve got a fairly acute skin contact allergy to most metals (the only thing I’ve had success with is titanium). I’m not concerned about inks, as I’m only planning to use black, but am concerned about the tattoo needles.

I’m assuming that they’re surgical stainless (please correct me if I’m wrong), and so will have nickel in the alloy, which is the most allergic metal… Has anyone seen or experienced an allergic reaction that could be attributed to the needles?

If you’ve got any horror stories of this type, please throw them up here. I’d much rather read them than be in one of my own.

    Thanks in advance.

Never even thought about this one. 316 medical grade stainless is extremely hypoalergenic but if you are realy woried titanium needles could be produced easily. just depends how far you and your artist are prepared to go . personaly i would trust the 316 as it is only in contact for a short time. Usually an hour or so and allergys to metals dont normaly show untill ten to twelve hours of contact or more.

allergies with piercings can happen because the bar / ring is in contact with your skin for extended periods but allergy to a tattoo needle would be almost impossible i think.

although for the good of science you could try small patches with different metal needles and see if you have any kind of reaction to it.

i dont even know if tit needles are actually available.

pleas elet us know how you get on though and add some pics into your album on your profuiel when the tats are finished.
