    Hia Guys and Gals,

First off, quick intro, my name is Shaun and I am English, currently living in the RoI!

I have already got a couple of small tattoos, I recently had a 99% blocked artery [age 43, bloody smoking gets you every time lol]

I am now on meds for thinning my blood, asprin and plavix. [latter platelet med] The rest of my heart os 100% healthy and I really would love another larger tattoo, but cannot seem to find any reliable info online anywhere. Given the wide usage of these drugs now and in many cases younger people taking them, the question of is it OK to have or get a tattoo while on plavix?

Getting a tattoo, it would be affected I am sure, at least by a small amount more blood, would it be possible get a tattoo on this med? Has anyone come across this either themselves or as an artist?

Really would love another tattoo and need some good advice!

    Cheers in advance – S

I honestly dont think it is a good idea… if its used to thin the blood i wouldnt think an artist would do a tatt on ya… but i could be wrong… i hope one of are more knowledgeable tattooist can answer you for sure.

Have you discussed this with your Dr.? He/She would prolly tell ya not just yet but maybe later on.

Do you have to be on this med for the rest of your life?

    Hia Gosh,

Many thanks for the answer so quickly, my cardiac rehab specialist said to wait about 6 weeks, but that she had never been asked, I had the angioplasty/blockage fixed 2 weeks ago.

The meds are for life, at least that seems to be the general opinion. It used to be a year, but recently it seems that doctors are moving towards a lifetime on them.

Apart from this, I am healthy, before the op, had normal BP/Chol, no fam history etc etc, so was a big shock to say the least.[it had been 99%+ blocked, was told I would never ever know how lucky I was, had been like that for months apparently]

I had been thinking of getting a tatt for a while, but having come so close to Mr Reaper, I would like to celebrate escaping 😉

It seems that there is almost NO info about it and the docs and med profs I have asked seem to look like, what are you on, they have never been asked before! Thats why I came on here to find out from professionals, some artists must have come across this before! Well I am hoping so 😉

    Cheers – Shaun

I will not tattoo anyone on blood thinning medication, and always ask if they are on medication before tattooing. You will bleed more and the end result of the tattoo will not be at all good.

this will work on the same principal as alcohol in the way that it thins your blood.

i have only seen a couple of people who got a bit drunk before going to a tattoo artist and not tellign them they had been drinking. Both were found out pretty damn quick though because they bleed everywhere.

alcohol thins your blood by a small amount. i would imagine that your new pills will have a more thinning effect than alcohol.

you could go to an artist and try somethingthough. maybe reline your old tat to see how much you bleed through but it may be the case that your skin is less likely to accept the ink now your blood is running more freely.
