im 17… and i want a rather odd tatto. i’m not going to get it now as im still trying to figure out exactly how it will look. sometime by the summer ill probably go and get it done, but first…
i want a roughly full back tattoo of a off-road nobbably tire tread. no burnouts or anything just how a nobbly tire would look in the mud.
now i’m completly new to the tattoo world and i know basically nothing. i’m going to be designing the artwork myself with basic shapes as squares, rectangles, triagles, diamonds ect…
the general dimensions are 7in x 2ft
all black ink
basic shapes spread out to look like nobbly tire tread
any idea how much?
thanks in advanced
uhh, ur killing me…
when u look at off-road tires they have these pieces of rubber sticking off the tire, these “nobbes” sink in the dirt, sand, mud ect.
nobbly’s are just the pieces of the tread that jut out the surface of the wheel.
So are you wanting mud or just tire marks down your back?
i want the tire mark

Show your artist something like these… and if you show your artist a tire tred that you particularly like would really help. Because then the artist can impersonate mud or sand or whatever you want.
those are great!
i know i need to find a particular tread i like, but i just can’t find one. i don’t want to impresonate sand in the tattoo i just want the tread. i want to stay simple im not into the whole elaborite tattoo on my back, mostly because i won’t see it.
thanks for the help.
any idea of a rough pricing?
Surfaccing
Don’t take this wrong but your idea made me chuckle. The reason is quite ironic really.
I got left with a real tire tread imprint right across my leg and spent a huge wad of cash having the scar lasered out.
Damn if I had thought on I should have kept the pics of it – could have used it as a real mould to base your tattoo off! (lol).
But it is an interesting tattoo design idea – the cost I would reckon would be quite expensive as back motifs start at around £1500 in the uk (for a decent artist) and go upto around £3k-£4k depending on the depth and quality of it.
You might be able to get it cheaper (but I wouldn’t recommend somebody riding over you 😉 ).
Let me know how it works out.

Surfaccing, are you after life a solid black tread impression?
May I ask, what’s the inspiration, or rather the idea behind it? You dont have to tell me, frankly it’s none of my business. I do love original, niche, odd type tattoos though.
Prices of tattoos are so vague though, it depends on a lot; mostly time though and any large tattoo is going to take a while.
Sherav/Matthew, you raise an interesting point. I know of many stories and many people personally that have gotten tattooed to cover a scar or draw attention away from a scar etc, etc. Then there are people like me, who have shall we say ‘aquired’ scars over the top of once perfect ink and yet in some perverse way, I love them, I love the ‘stain’ the ‘blemish’. Scars, like tattoos are stories. Having said that, it is’nt as if I have any huge, horrific scars.
Scott.
In the USA the price depends on the artist mostly. But artists go for about $100 to $250 an hour. It also depends on detail, color, and size.
ill go ahead and tell u the motive behind my idea.
i’m a real simple kid, that loves motorcycles more then cars; unfortunetly, my mom won’t let me get a bike and i can’t afford a off-road vehicle. and since i don’t have the motive for a off-road vehicle ill just stick with the idea. so i’ve been pondering how do i keep my thrill of off-road alive even if i drive on the street. what better then a tattoo?
so i pondered on the most unique way to show my love of a passion i’ll probably never get to obsess over. i’ve always loved the look of a off-road tire leaving it’s mark on the earth. i have a Suzuki Rm hat from motocross that i used to wear and it actually had patches sewn into the hat to make it look like a motorcycle ran it over. then my bro had a mechanics shirt with a tire tread imprent on the back and thats what inspired me!
it really is a idea that i wish to run with. and i’ll probably be able to get it done in the summer.
ill get a picture of the hat and shirt up in the morning sometime.
that way u guys know what i’m talking about!
Is your mum worried about paying for the bike?
Why don’t you pay for it yourself or make a deal like half half with ur parents
i buy my own vehicles and my parents pick up the insurance (we only buy the bare minimal insurance so it’s really really cheap). i’ll have the money for my dream bike by the sumer. 2002-2004 Kawasaki Ninja 636.
she has had several of her family killed on sport bikes (her dad and brother) and she is really scared. she trust me on dirtbikes (cause they really are safe) but hates any road bike. plus i want to go to the military academy for college and they don’t allow students to ride motorcycles. but i don’t know if i’l be accepted for the academy.
but ya bare minimal insurance on a motorcycle is like $30 a month on insurance so thats not a problem. but she is being a pain. so i’m making compelling arguments but she just won’t listen.

thats the kind of tattoo i want to be put on my back. of course the pattern will be a little different and across the whole back
Looks like a nice idea for a tat.
I can understand your mother’s worry about road bikes – it is usually other drivers that cause the accident.
That is how I got my memento after been knocked off my Honda – bastard ran straight over my leg into the bargain.
The Ninja series is some sweet speed – are you gonna go classic or get a custom job – be warned tho bikes like tattoos get addictive (and expensive) 🙂
Good luck with the tattoo and the academy!
