Hi everyone! Introduction threads seem to stump me, so I’ll just start with the obvious.

I can’t really remember how long I’ve been interested in tattoos, but I do recall starting to think of designs when I was 14 years old. The first design I came up with was a pair of wings that was a design from a book on Native American art because, one, the artwork was so beautiful and had designs that seemed incredibly unique in general (not just for tattoos), and two, because at the time I wanted to get wing tats in the future. Since then, I haven’t really thought about getting wings and have been focusing on a memorial tattoo. My sister passed away when I was 11 on April 30th, and this week on the anniversary of it, I’m scheduled to get the memorial tattoo.

That brings me to why I signed up…

The primary reason I signed up was to find more information on taking care of tattoos, and to also finalize where I’m going to get it. I’ve mainly thought about getting it over my heart, but I heard that area is actually a really painful place to get it, so I’m trying to consider other locations. This will be my first tattoo though, so I don’t have a prior experience to compare it to. I’m just going to hold onto my mom’s hand and think about how my sister went through two years of cancer treatments and how this tattoo pain can’t compare to that (especially a time when they were trying to draw blood and it ended up being a 4 hour MRI experience… that’s another story for another time though 😛 )

    Anyway!

Aside from that, I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil, and I started playing keyboard in 2007 (while drawing on the very limited knowledge I had from piano lessons when I was nine), and got a piano last February, so I’ve been enjoying that. My biggest vice is coffee and I get a headache if I don’t drink it.
I hope to be an art therapist due to my extreme interest in art (and a more recent interest in psychology), and also a need to help people and give them some tools for healthy coping mechanisms.

Thank you for the nice replies everyone! I’ll reply to everyone who has posted so far in this post.

Joker1: Like Outlaw said, I am 19 years old.

Sherav: Ohh, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been through the same sort of situation. Yeah, there are some hard days (especially after I turned 18 because it meant that I officially had begun to outlive her, and I’ve been fighting some sort of survivor-guilt type feelings since then), but it definitely has been easier, especially in the past few years.

Outlaw: Thank you! I can’t wait to meet them.

    apostle228: Thank you!

    Now for a quick update.
I just got back from the artist consultation and had some rather unsuccessful ideas sketched out for the artist to take a look at. None of them were the exact design that I had in mind so I told her about my ideas and paid the deposit and the fee for her sketch. Since it’s a fairly simple tattoo, it shouldn’t cost more than 100 dollars.
I’m still getting it over my heart, and I modified the sketch a bit to put the initials at a sort of downward slant, but the rest of the details I’ll save for tomorrow because that is when I’m getting it! The appointment is at 3 PM PST and I’ll definitely post pictures when I’m done.

Oofah, I’m already shaking from adrenaline..
