    I have several tats, except for one, all were done “unprofessionally”. (I was young and impatient) I have one in particular that I want to have fixed and added to. The problem is when it was first done about 15 years ago, it faded out in places, when I got it touched up, they did it too deep. I have spots where the ink blew out and other spots that bubbled or scarred like they pushed too much ink under the skin. It’s all in black and most of the writing in it is unreadable. So I guess what I am asking is can this be fixed? I don’t want to cover it, it is a sentimental tat2, I just want to have something I can be proud to show off, I have been hiding it because it just looks so terrible. What would be the best route, should I have it laser lightened or can white be put into it to lighten it, or could it just be cleaned up with fresh ink? Or are there other options? I know it’s kinda hard to tell without seeing it, but I would rather not show it to the world as it is, and I don’t know how to post photos yet. I do have plans to see a professional artist in the near future to see if it can be fixed, but I was just wondering what options are out there. One more question, if the artist decides they don’t want to touch the existing tat, would it be unreasonable to ask them to do the add on?

    Hi

    Without seeing it you have 3 main options;

    Full cover up over the orig tattoo.

    Rework the tattoo but this would usually mean that it needs to be much thicker and bolder to cover up the blow out spread – can be a bit more difficult on text tattoos.

    Laser lightening – Last resort really as very expensive and there is still a risk of scarring and you cannot get another tattoo over it for a long time until it has fully healed.

    Send me a PM with your email and I can contact for a photo as would be much easier to take a look.

    Take Care

    Thanks for the response. I went to see a pro to see what could be done and he told me basically the same thing you did, except with him seeing it, fixing is a really bad idea, lines would be so thick, it would possibly look worse than it does already. Why pay good money for that? His suggestion was a good cover. I am sad I have to loose what is there, but this guy is really good and is working on something to fit with the theme of what I had, but will be pretty and professional. He did not recommend laser for the reason you stated, too long for recovery and probably added scarring making it much worse too. So I am going to say good bye to my old blown out tat and hello to a new gorgeous one. Thanks!!!
