Well, first off, there’s these wonderful things call periods. They’re these little black “dots” we use to denote the end of a thought, or as we call it in adult world, a sentence. These “periods” are there to let us know it’s okay to take a breath and move on to your next thought.
Also, paragraph structure. It ain’t cool
to talk
like
this.
It makes you look like you’re twelve years old and never attended elementary school. You’re at least eighteen now man–it’s time to talk like a big boy now.
Now that we’ve got the grammar out of the way, let’s see what we can do with this monstrosity.
Personally, I’d go with a complete cover up as whoever designed that tattoo had no sense of design at all. However, if you choose to keep it, you’re going to need to fill it in. If you can find a good artist (not the idiot that did that) they could possibly color it in so it’s chrome like the actual VW symbol.
Flames would just make it look more of a mess in my opinion. It’s a seriously busy piece as is.
Love. Peace. Metallica.
Hi
First of all flames will seriously wreck that tattoo – it would without being too harsh look fucking awful.
My advice is get the tattoo re-outlined so the lines are bolder and straighter.
Then get a pro-artist to either shade in the bars or add some colour like a grey or black.
At the moment it looks like it is half done.

can i have a triscuit
yeah

yes i am nearly 18
and i can speak how i please
i can write how i please
no matter what proper grammar says
#2
that my friend is the ORIGINAL VW symbol
and i got it by a pro artist
VWs are my life
Lol, damn duuuude calm down.
And, I must admitt….I am horrible with spelling and grammar. I type like a toddler at times lol.
But don’t ask us for ideas for YOUR tattoo. It’s YOUR body! Think of stuff relates to you and get it.
I would just get it filled in solid…..but why did you get just the outline in the first place? I don’t see much pre-planing behind it.
nah i got the outline because i originally had thought about getting it filled in with the traditional VW blue and having it fade to black, but now i look at it, and i can see flames around it, i can see german colored tribal around it, i can see the german flag behind it, and i cant choose
thats why i asked for help
Go for it all.
Make it one big ORIGINAL-TO-YOU type piece.
You skin is your canvas, decorate how YOU want.
The OP is correct, VW had this logo design for a while. It was changed after the war (I’ve been told the design around the cog is supposed to be a spinning swastika), you can see it on some old user manuals though.
I agree with what has been said in some of the replies though, you may need to get the current tattoo touched up in some places before moving on to further embellishing it. Especially the cog part may need some reworking, it’s not evenly thick all around. Same applies to many parts of the tattoo, I just find this detail most obvious.
Unfortunately, it certainly doesn’t look like it was done by a pro artist, sorry.

And sound like an idiot, right. I mean, yes, technically you are capable of speaking in any manner that you like, but most people like to avoid sounding like flaming jackasses.
But, I guess you ain’t one of them.
So go ahead, keep rebelling against THE MAN, man! Raise your fist and resist the rules of grammar! Who needs to make sense! Who needs their posts to make sense on a single reading! FUCK COHERENCE! FUCK THE POLICE! FUCK WALT DISENY!

VWs are my life
I just hope they still are twenty years from now. Your life I mean. Either way, whether the artist you got it from was a pro or not (and frankly, I still seriously doubt it), he still sucks. HARD. Get yourself a new one, preferably from a reputable shop.
But then again, you said you’re nearly eighteen, which means virtually no reputable shops in America will touch you. Frankly, I’ll calling bullshit on your artist being a “pro”. Even if he works in a shop, looking at that tattoo says he’s a scratcher if working on someone underage doesn’t cinch it.
As for the tattoo, biker is right–your tattoos in some way symbolize who you are, and your designs should speak to you, and should be original. But, on the other hand, me and Matthew and the others here offer advice so you can get the best versions of your vision possible.
And, I can’t stress this enough, but flames, tribals, or that flag will make your piece look like utter shit. That design is uber busy, and adding to it will make what’s already a mess disgusting. I know you don’t want to listen to me because I’m an asshole (you’re right of course), but hell, even the nicest guy in the world Matthew thinks it’s a bad idea. Hell, he’s written books on tattoos, and has done hundreds of hours of research on them–when he says a thing about ink, it pays to listen.
Personally, I still think you need to cover that piece of shit entirely, however if you’re going to keep it, listen to Asenath. It needs serious reworking from a serious artist. Wait until you’re 18 to get it worked on and use the time until then (even if it’s a few days) to research the shops in your area and find yourself a talented artist who can shine that turd into gold.
Side note:
Spinning swastika? Dude, are you REALLY comfortable with having a freaking Nazi FuckHead symbol on you?
Love. Peace. Metallica.
Hi
First of all KH thank-you for your kind words but I am not the definitive answer on ink – everybody’s opinion counts and there are a few artists on here who I would happily sit at the feet of and learn from.
With regards to Asenath he/she is in fact correct the Volks Wagon (or Peoples Car) was a strong symbolism for unity and strength in the National Socialist Movement in the 1930’s.
Hitler saw the power of simple symbolism and wanted the VW to represent a crowning achievement of affordable transport.
The VW design was dealt with in part by a designer called Nikolai Borg who replaced the swastika with a VW overlapping so that when it spun on the hubcaps it would represent a swasitika.
To be honest even as a Jew I do not get offended by the history of vehicles (VW Mercedes etc) they were just cars built in a particular time and have since evolved, besides both are great motors.
This is why to get the best out of your tattoo I would suggest a relining of the tattoo so that the line are crisp and thick as they are in the orig design.
If you get the lines filled in so they become solid it will make the tattoo look much more solid.
Then you can always add the German flag rippling behind the VW (which could be used as a centrepiece) add some shadowing and it will look like the flag is moving in the breeze.
The way to consider it is this;
You wouldn’t add go faster stripes or furry dice to your VW – so why add flames it simply just doesn’t fit the design of engineering excellence does it?
Filling in the bands with the German flag colours will just make it look like a kalaedescopic mess of colour.
Of course feel free to do as you wish – we (all in our own way) only want you to have ink you can be proud of and many of us made early mistakes we are trying to help you to avoid.
Take care
Matthew
Just read the rest of the posts on this thread – having made a mistake with a tattoo and paying twice as much to put it right I would say definitely follow the advice that you have asked for – find someone that is capable of making it right. You will, no doubt, want to show off your ink, so make it something that you are proud of.
