I am going for another tattoo very soon. The idea I have for one is this:
I used to self-harm for a long time (almost 6 years) and have recently got through it. I want to get a tattoo that signifys this in some way. I was going to get something with a butterfly, but I already have a butterfly tat so I dont really want to do another one. I usually design my own tats but I am completely stumped on this one. Its going to be really special and meaningful, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know lol 😀

Have you considered a straight razor with the blade snapped off near the middle.
The broken part has been transformed into a metallic butterfly.
You can still see the blade as the main body but has metallic wings.
The beads of blood on the lower blade have become droplets of stardust from the butterfly tail.
This will signify a move on from the self harming culture and show that the use of marking the skin can be for a positive thing.
That and I like butterflies.

True, but I want something unique, something that everytime I look at it I know exactly why I got it…I want to get a sleeve sometime, dont have the room though lol.

Hi well you can always take it to an artist with a few samples of pictures and get them to draw it up from your concept sketches.
I am sure it would make a nice piece.

Thank you for the referance pik Sherav, and yes thats a great idea Butterfly, its probably what I will do. I’m considering taking it to another artist, but only if I can’t draw it myself, I think I have pride issues lol.

I’m thinking about it but he lives all the way in Digby, and thats almost 4 hours away from me, I don’t have the gas money for that lol. We’ll see though.

I am new to the forum…I am a professional tattoo artist. I just wanted to offer you a few suggestions. First, the idea of the razor butterfly is a great one. For ideas you could try the internet. Bring your artist pictures and have him/her draw up some custom ink for you. This is the best way. There are also several companies that charge a small fee for a database of tatttoos, however your idea is quite unique so it’s probably not best for you. As far as location…it’s up to you…just make sure you really want it there before you get it. Hope this helps!
