I got this book for Christmas in 1978. My grandparents taught me to read with it and Who Killed Cock-Robin? was and still is my favorite nursery rhyme. I was able to recite it verbatim before I actually learned to read. My grandmother kept it on a shelf in her bedroom for about 30 years, (when she wasn’t reading it to me or my cousins) and recently gave it to me. This tattoo means a lot to me, it symbolizes all the time I spent with my grandparents growing up. The work was done by Rudy, of Revolt Tattoo in Newcastle, Delaware. (The same artist who did my butterflies)

I am already saving up because when this heals the sparrow, with his bow and arrow, and the fly, with his little eye, are next.

I was thinking about it. Maybe the last stanza, if there is room after I get all the characters that I want in it. Thanks. 🙂

“Who killed Cock Robin?” “I,” said the Sparrow,
“With my bow and arrow, I killed Cock Robin.”
“Who saw him die?” “I,” said the Fly,
“With my little eye, I saw him die.”
“Who caught his blood?” “I,” said the Fish,
“With my little dish, I caught his blood.”
“Who’ll make the shroud?” “I,” said the Beetle,
“With my thread and needle, I’ll make the shroud.”
“Who’ll dig his grave?” “I,” said the Owl,
“With my pick and shovel, I’ll dig his grave.”
“Who’ll be the parson?” “I,” said the Rook,
“With my little book, I’ll be the parson.”
“Who’ll be the clerk?” “I,” said the Lark,
“If it’s not in the dark, I’ll be the clerk.”
“Who’ll carry the link?” “I,” said the Linnet,
“I’ll fetch it in a minute, I’ll carry the link.”
“Who’ll be chief mourner?” “I,” said the Dove,
“I mourn for my love, I’ll be chief mourner.”
“Who’ll carry the coffin?” “I,” said the Kite,
“If it’s not through the night, I’ll carry the coffin.”
“Who’ll bear the pall? “We,” said the Wren,
“Both the cock and the hen, we’ll bear the pall.”
“Who’ll sing a psalm?” “I,” said the Thrush,
“As she sat on a bush, I’ll sing a psalm.”
“Who’ll toll the bell?” “I,” said the bull,
“Because I can pull, I’ll toll the bell.”
All the birds of the air fell a-sighing and a-sobbing,
When they heard the bell toll for poor Cock Robin.

That is some great ink you have had done there.

It will look great if you continue it although you would need huge arms for all the characters :p

Thank you (to everyone) for the kind words. That is actually the front of my right leg, not my arm. I know I won’t be able to fit all the characters, at least not on that leg, but am going to fill it up with my favorites. After I get all the characters that I want, or will fit, my artist has some ideas about tree limbs and leaves for a background.

The Wikipedia page for WKCR? has a lot of interesting information about the rhyme.

    Hi

Sorry didn’t realise it was a slender leg as opposed to a muscular arm :p
You know I really oughta stop certain habits they are clouding my brain.

    😀

Still it looks great and to be worn with pride.

Haha, no problem, but now I am off to the gym to do some leg curls so I don’t feel like such a girly-man. (kidding) 😀

I got some more work done on my Who Killed Cock Robin tattoo about a month ago. This picture was taken today. It was done by the same artist, Rudy Neukerk of Revolt Tattoos in New Castle, DE. So far I have the robin, the sparrow with his bow and arrow, the fish with his little dish, the beetle with his thread and needle, and the fly with his little eye. If I decide to get any more characters I am going to have to have them on another body part; that leg is getting pretty full.

You know, we have lots of folks come in here and ask for advice on memorial tattoos or tattoos that have mean. This is a prime example of a truly meaningful tattoo, and it is quality work. Kudos to you for the idea and to the artist.
