Hi,
Hopefully you can help. I have a general idea of what I want for a tattoo. Should I go to an artist for the design to give to the tattoo artist, or, should a tattoo artist do it all?

Either way I’ll have to research the person’s style to match what I want, but should I limit my search to tattoo artists?

Yes. Just go to the tattoo artist.
No need for a middle man.

Agreed. On top of that, you should build the relationship with your artist since you are going to be spending some time with him/her
