i have been planning to finish my back for the past year and a half, but I need to graduate and move back closer to my artist first, so its still going to have to wait another 6 months. That should be enough time to figure out how I want to finish my back.
As of now I am mainly thinking of a night-scape, maybe something like this:

I just don’t know how much emphasis I should put on the sky, and how much I should put into the landscape. I think it would have a little more context with more landscape, but other neat milky way pictures could give it more context such as a lunar eclipse:

I’m up for any suggestions, I do know that my artist has done at least one other space theme tattoo before so I know what I want is at least remotely possible
I have been looking at a lot of the picture Hubble has sent back, and I think I found a background that would work:

The Orion nebula, but with very vivid colors that I think could be done as a tattoo because it no longer is a mass of stars that create the picture but the few that constitute the constellation, and the gases of the nebula itself.
I think it has the right amount of detail to express, but not too much that it wouldn’t be a good design/ background
Oh forgot to warn you, Hubble pictures are browser and graphic card killers, if you click the actual picture for the full version be prepared to load a 18,000×18,000 picture
Agreed. One of the great aspects of nebulae is the conrast between dark and light, the thin wisps and tiny details. All of that will be hard to translate to skin and keep “fresh”. In addition, space scenes require a LOT of dark colors and black, so keep that in mind when thinking about how much time (and money) you want to spend in the chair.
I would research space tattoos, not space photos. You’ll get a much better idea of what they will look like on skin and might give you more ideas of what to go for. Email some to your artist and have them give you some thoughts and ideas now. Get the ball rolling.
