So as I’ve been working on my lotus flowers I’ve realized something because the blue one started having it’s color done. Even if a liner needle/machine doesn’t hurt once it was switched over to the shader stuff I couldn’t handle it at all. To the point that we had to go back to the liner in order to even get any color in.
Is this something that I’ll probably experience with any tattoo (first time I actually needed to have a shader used) or is it more likely the girl who is doing these have a heavy hand that just results in the shader hurting more?

It could be one or the other, or both. Some people experience pain differently to others.
For me the outline hurts the most but the shading is less painful, but I know some people have the opposite experience. And yes, some artists are more heavy handed than others.
I’ve been told that the outline goes deeper which would logically hurt more. Shading though not as deep can have multiple needle points and goes fast. I’ve been more concerned about where it is going. My worst pain thus far has been the ball of my ankle, and inside (back of) my knee. I’ve lived through those tattoo locations but have in my future the top of my foot, my kneecap, and shading all over the fucking place.
The artist currently working on has a much lighter hand than some of the others in the past.
He also uses some rotary machines. (These are more quiet if nothing else)

Today I had top of my foot, ball of my ankle and the back of my lower leg done.
As for my foot, the coloring / shading hurt but was tolerable, about the same as the outline two weeks ago.
Back of my leg, some areas actually were not relaxing, but kind of soothing similar to an “energetic” massage.
Ball of my ankle, hurt like fuck! Outline and coloring!
