I’m doing research for an article that I’m doing pertaining to tattooed “professionals,” such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, or any position of authority really, and the negative connotations that come with trying to have tattoos in our culture today. Preferably, I would like you to have a decent amount of work but at this point, I am willing to work with you. I would need to interview you and possible have you take a picture of the tattoos so that I could accurately describe them to the reader. I’m trying to end the discrimination and negative feelings towards those with tattoos by providing examples of members of the community that are upstanding citizens and have a lot of work. I would also be interested in hearing if you have ever been denied a job or other opportunity because of your tattoos as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you don’t want to post it up on here, feel free to email me at wynnjl@email.uc.edu
Thanks guys,

im down for that… im a 17 year old student in australia.. im currently doing year 12..
i have two tattoos so far. these consist of a ned kelly tribut. designed by myself. i also have a southern cross tattoo on my back that coincides with the kelly..
my family do not agree with tattoos. my dad very much has a distaste for them as well as all other body modifications. my mum i neutral and does not want me getting anymore… (haha.,.. over my dead body)
ask way and i shall answer what i can…. as far as being denied a job for having my tattoos. i have not been denied. but non the less i an scrutinized for having them by others…
glad i could help…
Well my father is heavily tattooed and is the Manager of a large company. So he doesnt seem to be discrimated against.
I am covered but im a tattoo artist and im allowed lol. before that i was a signwriter and did get a few looks here and there from clients.
My husband is a life coach, social worker and youth mentor and he is covered and has to deal with alot of people and police and never gets descriminated either. If anything in his line of work it helps the others he’s trying to help realize he’s “real” and not some suit thats trying to tell them what to do. So i guess really everyone country and situation is different.
Now i just remembered he did decline a job he was offered because they wanted him to take out his eyebrow piercing and cover his tattoos. He wouldnt do this so declined the position.
I’ll be honest and say that I’m pretty unfamiliar with New Zealand lol…obviously, tattooing must be at least somewhat prevalent there if you are able to make a living at it…excuse my ignorance, is there a large tattooing base in new zealand?
Hi thenephilm
I live in England and am a professional fraud investigator for local government. Yes we have a zero ink policy in place and I have to keep my covered at all times.
I can send you pictures of them if you want – but wasn’t sure if you just wanted say USA responses.
Take Care
Matthew
Tattooing is pretty big in New Zealand, we’re not the little backward dot on the map that people may think. I live in a town of 4,000 and there are 2 tattooists here, 40 mins down the road another 2, 40 mins the other way about 5, they’re everywhere lol.
New Zealanders are the heaviest tattooed people in the world! :D:D
Very popular over here:)
That is really cool…do you guys ever have issues with jobs and having a lot of ink over there? What styles are prevalent over there?
To be honest no problems at all. Tattooing is very socially accepted here. And becoming ever more popular thesedays.
I still have my guidelines regarding the younger people, as they seem to start their collections on forearms etc. In full view of the public eye.
I am lucky enough to be able to adapt to most styles of Tattoos. Tribal is on the way out here. Celtic work is not very common now either….I find myself inking alot of Ta-Moko, Maori Tattooing.
Colour work is becoming more popular.
So yeah…Great country to be Tattooing.:)
