I got it done at a nice place, I made sure everything was fine, looked up reviews on the place, waited, decided what I wanted, made sure it was what I wanted and finally decided that the place I wanted to go to was fine – nothing bad said about it, everything clean, etc…
I got it done about four-five days ago, it was red at first and fine, I started putting lotion on it and it seems to irritate it, so I’m going to stop.. I’ve heard aloe straight from the plant works – the artist told me hand lotion would do the trick, but it only seems to make the tattoo sting.
here is a picture –

see how it is red around the edges of it? that stings a little, and the tattoo itself is flaky and cracking a little (I was told this would happen so I know this is normal..)
however I get really, really paranoid about infections and I know if the redness continues I should (and will) call the place I got it done, I was just wondering if anyone had anything that could put my mind at rest.
This is my first tattoo so I don’t know if that’s what it is suppose to look like or not.
Thanks 🙂
Did your artist specify to use a non-scented lotion? Because scented lotions will sting when you put them on a tattoo. Get something nonscented that is not petrolium based like lubriderm’s nonscented lotion and that should get rid of the sting. I would guess the continued redness might just be from the irritation caused by a scented lotion.
at the moment that doesn’t look infected to me , just irritated a little
That doesn’t look infected. If your tat gets worse and you are concerened about infection, GO TO A DOCTOR. Your artist won’t know if its infected and even if they could tell, they can’t prescribe antibiotics.
Dude, I think you got bulimia from your tattoo. You might need a skin graft and a heavy does of radiation to make it go away. Trust me, I’m a doctor.
Are you sure doctor? look closer…. it looks like a case of minor hyperplasia, but the coloring would indicate that it is benign. he should be safe unless it become necrotic, in which case he may need to go through debridement to remove the severely damaged tissues. amputation could be necessary if the case becomes extreme… unless he dies of typhus first. 😮
You guys just turned a bad day right round thanks for making me smile.:)
this is no smiling matter! that boy has some major issues that need to be taken care of! :p
Looks fine to me. Of course its sore! You let someone scratch the hell out of your arm with a needle!
Savlon may take the sting out of it and will help to fight any minor infection that may get in as its an open wound.
If you get any more probs with it (I’m assuming its quitened down by now) use Preparation H on it. Yes, bum ointment! It will take swelling away and soothe the skin, believe me. Top models use it if the get spots on their faces.
So in short, THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR TATTOO, stop getting paranoid, it will heal and look fine.
BTW if you do use Preparation H make sure you get the ointment and not the cream
You’ve restored my faith bud, it seems you HAVE got a sense of humour, you were just hiding it ! LOL! Great post, made me laugh!!
