Yesyesyes! In a fulltime job you should have no trouble surviving without overtime… Sick/vacation benefits shouldn’t even be a question :S
Over here, you get 12% of your total pay the previous year in June, so you can afford to have a vacation. And if you get sick, you still get paid. More than 17 days and the state pays. I think it pays what you’ve made on average the past 6months or so.

I honestly can’t believe these things are an issue for you guys. Clearly you deserve your benefits!

That’s good! Do you have a probation period?

No not really but I have to work for 3 years before I can become a full fledged journeyman I have over 25 years experience. I’m not bitching though because it is still more money and bennies than my old job.

What line of work? Plumbing? Electrical?

I became a journeyman plumber during several years of layoff from the railroad.

I don’t feel well. I have a little over 5.5 hours left. I am so cold I’m shaking. I’m tired of accommodating people who have made bad lifestyle choices. I’m not a kid, and even if I’m 20 years younger, you need to understand I didn’t get this far by being wrong all the time.

I’m going to just try to kill my next 5.5 hours on my phone. When I’m done, I’m going to buy and eat fast food because I’m tired of making any effort at all today. If I drank, I’d be totally fucked up.

Service work makes the most money.

With your union affiliation you will no doubt enjoy going to work now more than ever.

    Again, congratulations!

Someone very close to me asked me for scheduled meds today. I’ve given this person my legit personal meds in the past, before I “moved on up” in my career, and fell into a very bad cycle of enabling someone. I realized my mistake and talked to her doctor, who gave her Ambien for her alleged issue. She claims it doesn’t work, and we’re back to square one of the old, “Why can’t you just…”

This got someone else I’m close to very (understandably) mad at me. I need to be hammering away at some documentation, but I’m tired, overworked, and stressed over my own stupidity. I’ll do it after dinner today, but right now I just feel entitled to lying in my bed screwing around on my computer feeling sorry for myself.

Tell the person that they are watching you closely at work and you are afraid that if you do this for them you could lose your job and your license and encourage them to see a Doctor about their “sleep” problem.

Solid advice. I’m going with her to her next doctor’s appointment at her orthopedist. The fact of the matter is, she has pain and anxiety, but she needs to be straight with her doctors and get appropriate medicine. The woman is taking Xanax and Tramadol to sleep when she’s taking care of her grandchild. I don’t want to do a whole “Intervention” deal. I just want her to tell the damn doctor, let him refer her to a pain clinic, let them put her on heavier dope and nerve meds, and not worry about it.

Bah! Day well spent. Dismantled my computer, removed redundant and rearranged all the cables and drives and such to maximize airflow, blew out the dust and vacuumed and cleaned the whole thing.

    Results?

    Drives are running 5-7°C hotter
Video card is running 8°C hotter
    System is running 2°C hotter

Fantastic! I wonder if I shouldn’t just fill the box with excess cables and dirt. It would probably be running cold after that!

Ugh…16 more days till Nashville. Is it hard for you guys to count the days prior to tattoo travelling?
This is my first “going out of my way for quality work” experience and its killing me….the wait.
But at least there’s 5 checks this month…that means I won’t get too behind on bills.

Jerry, I’ve never traveled for a tattoo. I do remember when my very pregnant wife was getting ever so closer to her due date.
I also remember waiting for tattoo appointments. There’s no comparison!

    Good luck, Jerry!

I have a fever over 100. The young intern in the ER gave me stuff to stop the coughing which turns to retching, but for my phenergan he gave me suppositories. I’m not THAT sick…

My doctor gave me suppositories for hemorrhoids one time. For all the better they tasted I should have shoved them up my ass!
