My boyfriend likes heavy metal-ish music (Metallica, Linkin Park, Godsmack, Lamb of God) and I can’t stand it. I like a few Linkin Park songs, but that’s about it. I like more poppy/punky/alternative rock bands like (new as in Infinity on High) Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects, Cute is What We Aim For, The Killers, etc. What kinds of groups (or even just songs) would we maybe both like? Is this a major problem for our relationship?

If you listen to an average top rock chart radio station, they’ll play a mix of both.
You could also go with music closer to the middle of both of the genres, like
    Evans Blue
    Linkin Park
    Breaking Benjamin
    Audioslave
    Shinedown
    Switchfoot
    Finger Eleven
Lots of other stuff, I’d really just play a mix..

It’s not really bad for your relationship, imagine if he was into hardcore rap and techno, and you loved jazz, or country…

If you let something so trivial as music come between you then oh boy are you in for a surprise! I actually like the fact that my girl likes different types of music than me. It offers us both a chance to get to learn to like each other’s music. What she normally wouldn’t listen to she may learn to like and vice versa. Of course you can’t go around forcing your music on him but eventually you may grow into each other’s music. Learn to variate not assimilate.
