I’ve heard it explained that the use of vulgar language like ni99a or ho in hip hop is justified because most rappers are telling stories and that’s how things are in the hood. I grew up in the inner city and I’ve listened to hip hop my whole life. I would have to dissagree with this justification because I don’t think that hip hop tells a story like it used to. Rappers like Tupac, Biggie, Bone Thugs N Harmony, etc. DID tell stories in their music. But nowadays people like Lil’ John just sing songs about strippers, spending lots of money, and using a lot of drugs.
So in the context of these songs I don’t beleive that the use of ni99a and ho in hip hop make much sense.

it just makes me mad that my white self gets asaulted for saying it…

I think rap music (black people) are just gonna keep degrating themselves no matter what limits we set on their form of entertainment.

for example: whens the last time you heard something other than drugs, hoes, money, and cars from a rapper on popular radio? It’s been a while…

it would be great to see the word used less, but at the same time it doesnt phase me..people use the word in real life, so i dont see why rappers wouldnt use it..however i disagree with statements like that made above me ” i think rap music (black people) are just gonna keep degrating themselves”, all rappers aren’t black, and you’re making a terrible generalization of rap based on what you see on tv..if rappers choose to “degrade” themselves, so be it, who are we to tell them what to say in their songs, its their life, their music, their money…..
