I need to make one. I’m just curious about what elements make a song classified into that particular genre.

Easier said than done. Green Day still hasn’t figured out how to do it for almost 15 years. Listen to some of the older punk bands like The Ramones, The Sex Pistols or The Buzzcocks. That will at least give you a strong idea of what punk is. As for making one, let’s hope you are more creative than me.

Rapidfire drums, a strong, simple bassline, and stripped down, simple 3 chord guitars, with lyrics that are either overly political, or overly absurd.

Please note: You don NOT have to scream the lyrics! Screaming lyrics does NOT equal punk!

Listen to any Ramones or Donnas song song for what a simple punk song sounds like.

On Wikipedia it is described as:
Eschewing the perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock, created short, fast, hard music, with stripped-down instrumentation and often political or nihilistic lyrics. The associated punk subculture expresses youthful rebellion, distinctive clothing styles, a variety of anti-authoritarian ideologies, and a DIY (do it yourself) attitude.

Liste4n to the Sex Pistols and the Ramones, punk rockers are people who just jam, let most all of the emotions out through they’re music, screaming, cussing, and anything that you have strong feelings about.

You Need to make one? Ok, well…punk rock comes from visceral, gut emotions. Not a planned, very structured approach. Ideally, it *should* be just you & a band jamming REAL hard & seeing what comes from it. Belting out in-your-face lyrics about something that makes you angry or frustrated. Forget love songs. Ok? Leave that to the emos….
