I know they aren’t the same, but I don’t know what the differences are.
My guess is that rap is more freestyle lyrics with not much of a chorus, while hip-hop songs are based around their chorus.

Like what the first person said….”rap” is something you do.
but hip-hop is a type of culture. There are so many things that are related to hip hop besides rap. For example, baggie clothes, graffitti, our jewerly, and our slang, are all considered features in the hip hop culture. Rap is just hip hop music!

They’re pretty much the same. Hip-Hop sort of covers the genre of Rap, i.e. Rap is a sub-category of Hip-Hop.
