I am tossing around an idea I have for a sleeve. I am considering a Comic Style Jester that will be holding a Skull with a portion of the spine still attached. I’m not looking for an “Evil Jester” which is what 90% of all images I found on Google, Yahoo, ect… but more sinistar. My questions are: What sort of background would work with this and what other elements would fit with this type of design? Any thoughts on the idea or if you have some examples that would really help.
I will say, I am open to any and all feedback, hit me with whatever you are thinking. I can take it.
You should go with a tribal background, all black. Maybe you could ghost some kanji in there. Maybe have some script in there, like some def leopard lyrics. Just kidding man, busting your balls. I couldn’t help myself. I know your tattoo dislikes, I think everyone on here knows.

Good one. When I first started to read that, I had to go back abd see who wrote it. I was sure it was G.
Hi
Well you could have it bursting from a pile of voodoo pin cushion style dolls or rising up from a coffin, or leaning over a worn and aged tombstone.
Could have it from the hanging tree with a raven holding bits of the flesh in it’s beak.

Nope, but I thought it was funny!
What about some some labyrinth style glass contact juggling balls? With the right artist you could kill the tat with some wicked reflections. The first thing that I thought of was something like this:

Play with the idea a bit, Imagine the jester behind the orbs, maybe inverting him. Or you could have him be whole and human and the reflection is of his skull with the hat on. THis would fill up the tat and make the background less important.
Where are you located? have you found a tattooer that you really like? I’m almost willing to bet if you take this idea to a good tattooer you’ll get better ideas than google or yahoo or what have yous. Let them add their flavor to your ideas and it should be more than you expected if you find a good tattooer.
