I’m 24 & I’ve been wanting to get a tattoo for a few years, I’ve put it off because I didn’t want to get something that I’d regret later in life.
I’ve trawled google & various tattoo sites looking at various designs & figuring out what I’d like.

I like this one (Minus the bible reference), & thought I might get it on my right upper arm/shoulder area, about 15cm long, I was also planning to add a few initials in tiny letters amongst the flames of people that have/do mean alot to me (Mum, sis, best mate, first love).

this is also a nice tat, but a bit plain/solemn

this one’s nice but a bit feminine or flowery for me

I like Tribal Style tattoo’s, Dragons (Not fairy ones), Not really into skulls etc
I’d like a tattoo that I can add probably 6-10 initials in amongst it over time
Also a design that I can either hide with a t-shirt or wouldn’t affect job prospects
I’d like one on my upper arm, chest or maybe my thigh

any suggestions, comments or different designs are welcome

P.S I live in Palmerston North, New Zealand. If anyone knows of a Tattoo Parlour with an excellent reputation in Palmy, Welly, Naki etc let me know.
After looking through Izarrasink’s Albums, I would consider someone from home, if they had alot of talent & hygiene.
Palmy has a few but I’ve heard good & bad things about all of em, though this place has fairly good tattoos X-pressive Image tattoo Studio

Also, I know next to nothing about actually getting a Tattoo, I know to make sure its an actual business in a shop, to have a look at the tattoos they have done (Do tattoo’s look as good in a photo as they do on the person?, but what else?
Most of my mates don’t have Tat’s & family hasn’t got any either.
So any tips for finding the right place & asking the right questions would also be appreciated.

    hey drache,

I’m new here, but not new to tattooing. It’s actually a really good thing that you waited this long, too many people rush into tattoos and end up regretting it, just like you said. So don’t rush now. It sounds like you definitely want to get tattooed, but you don’t know exactly what you want. So take this time to get some ideas…look on the internet like you have been and really take the time to make a good decision. By the way, the tat pic up there that you didn’t know what it is…it’s a coheed and cambria symbol (the band). You may want to check out this site for ideas, they do charge but it’s a fantastic site for tribal tattoos and i think it could really help you.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

    Hi

For basic answers on getting a first tattoo – the things to look for, to avoid, how it works etc click on my sig I wrote a free ebook for the community.

5000 clicks since June 09 and still rising so will happily work on another project I have.

Here is also a link for crosses that might give you inspiration

My advice is if you do get initials you shouldn’t go too small as will end up blurred. I would also recommend no first loves as new partners may find this a serious turn off or it can become a relationship issue.

    Take Care
