Currently in the process of thinking of a design for my chest, which will also be my first tattoo. I’m semi-tempted to give drawing a go for a very rough idea of what I want. Here are my ideas so far:

Firstly, I was thinking the girls head pictured below on the top corner of each pec, facing ech other. Then the heart with wings x 2 down and more central, slightly angled with the wings overlapping slightly. At this point it’s symmetrical. The ‘all seeing eye’ pyramid/eye top and central. Then similar themed flowers / leaves filling it out and maybe incorperate the owl somehow.

The other idea I had was the woman’s head/skull below in the centre, with her hair more back and up as opposed to being by the side, surrounded by roses. I’m a bit unsure what else to have in this.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but I can’t draw!

    Thanks!

Ok so my first recommendation is to not get a full chest piece as your first tattoo. But your going to make ur own mind up.
If you are going big first time out artist selection is the most important thing. Cheap artists do cheap work.
Youll never get charged $150 an hour for some bs.
Once you find the right artist talk to them. You dont need to be able to draw. They will be able to draw it for you.
The best thing to do is have a conversation about what youd like to accomplish.

Do not just go to any random shop to get this done.

Thanks for your advice. I do not disagree with with your recommendation about not getting a full chest piece / large tattoo for a first one, but can I ask why? I’m not really keen on smaller designs such a face on its own, just looks a bit bare in my opinion.

Will have to see an artist as you say. Cost isn’t too much of an issue, workin full time and living at home has its perks :)!

    Thanks for the response

Id say since its your first that sitting thru a 15+ hour tattoo might be a little much for a virgin.
Im not saying you cant do it, just that the chest isnt the easiest place to get tattooed.
Who knows, it could be a cakewalk for you. But ive seen grown men get up and leave after an hour.
I know this chick that was getting a smallvspider outlined and only got thru 7 legs and left. So funny.
If your keen on doing it big on the firstvone, i say go for it. Just go into it expecting thebworst pain of your life, so when it starts and its not as bad as you expect youll be fine.

Again, dont talk to just any artist. Figure out who you like and post up a link to theyre work so you can recieve reccomendations from the members.

Ah right yeah I haven’t considered the pain aspect as much as I should really, will have to have a think.

I was planning on using the same person as a friend has used due to the results he got. I’ll find there website and post some pictures.

    Thanks!

For the most part you’ll get good, helpful, brutally honest feedback.

    It sure helped me!

One of the most dangerous sentences in all of tattooing, that.
