hey everyone,
i’ve been thinking about my first tattoo about three years now.
im thinking about getting a dogtag chain tattoo
and on the chain this pendant
i want it on the left side of my chest
i would like your honest opinions about my idea
the only problem is that i have the drawing skills of a five year old
(no disrespect to five years old though;))
so i dont have a drawing or design yet..
im still in search of a good artist in the Netherlands
so if anybody got a recommendation for a good artist, im all ears:D
thanks in advance
A car emblem..? Why?
And you don’t need to draw a design to get a good tattoo, you just need an idea and a good artist 🙂 Take your idea to the artist, reference pics if you have them, and they’ll make you something unique.
Honestly I’m not a fan of chains tattoos at all, especially if you’re getting it around your neck. I think it looks like something a 16 year old from Hackney would get done by his cousin to prove his street cred. But that’s just me 😉
Peterpoose has a list of amazing artists in his signature, check it out! Look at some of the different artists that are around and the work they’re doing, may give you some inspiration as well 🙂
That is a silly idea like Pox said. You no need to draw with even the skills of a 3 year old that is your tattooists job. If the tattooist that you have chosen says just bring me in a drawing then you have chose the wrong tattooist.
thanks for the advice,
the chain wont be around my neck
the chain of the dogtag would come on my chest as well…
i want a memorial tattoo for a passed away relative
on the dogtag i want his name and next to the tag would come this pendant
because he had exactly that necklace…

Was he in the military? How close was the relative? If you start getting a tattoo for everyone that dies pretty soon you will be a walking talking memorial.

Its about my uncle but he was like an older brother to me
And we where very close..
And yes he was in the military
Get what you want but if it were me I would put some thought in to it. A memorial tattoo doesn’t have to be a memorial instead maybe you could think of something that you two enjoyed together and get that. Say you guys enjoyed going to the dog track together get a race dog on you etc.
I kind of like the idea of tattooing the charm from your uncle’s necklace. As long as you don’t get it around your neck (as you said). It would make a small and simple memorial piece. The dog tags might just clutter the design, but I get that you might want to honor his service. I personally would do it without dates, they just make it look like an obvious memorial piece. Memorialize his life rather than his death.
But to go for a larger piece I would follow Buttwheat’s advice and think of something that you enjoyed together and find an image that captures that idea or feeling.
I had a grandfather that was known as “Pappy”. He was about 5’6″ weighed maybe 140 pounds. He worked in a steel mill and a cement block factory. Could he have kicked my ass? Any time he wanted.
I often associated him with Popeye the Sailor’s father, also known as (Poop Deck)”Pappy” and built the same way.
Would I consider a “Pappy” tattoo? I never thought I would.
