Why do some people get copycat tatoos? Like if they see a tattoo on their favorite celebrity, then they go out and get the exact same thing on the exact same part of their body. Don’t they know that that’s probably a real personal thing for the peron they are copying from? Sorry, I just had to ask…………this is kinda a pet peeve of mine. I mean, come on people! BE ORIGINAL!!!!

I got a friend who used to want to get a set of wings tattooed on her back – it was going to be her own design, but then Kelly Osborne got a set of wings so my friend vowed to never get wings just because of that.
But I agree – get something that means something special to you, because its something you have to live with for the rest of your life, and you might not be a fan of that celeb for the rest of ya life.

I find that alot of copycat tattoos are down to alot of artists wanting a quick turnover, like a bit of a production line, no need to think, redesign an idea, add, reduce etc. Not only celeb tattoos, anything that is already in existance. I find it a bit sad that people walk into a studio and pick something off the wall, something they may like for that moment, or even that few months of thier life, and as said, alot of it is down to the artist recommending redesigning stuff, and if he doesn’t people should mention it. Even if you do pick from the wall in a spur, change it, coz you will be sure to bump into someone at sometime with the same piece and thats got to be quite embarrasing and regretful.
The celeb copycats are just down to insecurity in my opinion, ‘if I get a beckham tattoo, will I look like him?’, bloody stupid. Just look at all the people who copied Robbie Williams, now half of the tattooed country have a piece that they no nothing about, nothing about the story/tale/meaning of the design (and I don’t believe all tattoos need to have some spititual meaning, but tribal/cultural/race stuff will. The lower back piece that evey young lass, her mother and the family dog has, to be part of the ‘lower back piece gang’. Tattoos in the western world were supposed to bring about originality, and individualism to a certain degree. Although now being tattooed in itself is not individual as it’s so popular, people at least owe it to themselves to try to create it on a personal level with yourself, beit a time in your life, of sybolising a time in your life or just a pretty picture (that doesn’t matter). Nothing personal about getting something your mate has, or 95% of women have out on town each weekend, with the boys and thier Robbire pieces.

scrubmuncher is correct, quick turnover from the artist point of view, from the clients point of view maybe their obsessed, or finatical about the person sporting the original tattoo. Or maybe they cannot think for themselves?….
The artist has alot to do with the placement and the tattoo itself, so if they are pushing it then most likely the client will get it because they hold so much influence.
