    Hey all,
Im looking to get another tattoo in the comming weeks.
My question is im having skin graft surgery above my hip and i was wondering if once that is compleatly healed, would it be possible to get work done over the top?

Has anyone ever tried to cover a skin graft with a tattoo? Ill proably be looking at a basic black ink out line tattoo.

Any thoughts or advice would be great.
    Rob.

I have tattooed over scar tissue but not sure about a skin graft. I’d leave it for a few years before messing about with it. If you are looking at disuising anything then using loads of colour and detail works best. Black shows scarring up worse than any other colour. Complicated and colourful is the way forward to camo unwanted faults.

In answer to your question yes it can be done.

    But.. (Aint there always :D)

The skin has to be left to heal for at least 1-2 years because I have had the graphs and the epidermis is actually much weaker and needs to ‘shed’ several times to ensure that it has taken properly.

If you try too quickly it tears and leaves you with some really bad scarring.

I have had a tattoo over part of the graph and the artist had to go over it several times before the ink actually took (even now on real close inspection it is actually a shade lighter than the rest and you can see the scar tissue below it – mine is black/shade).

Also it hurt like a bastard! I mean really hurt. I am not sure why but that section of skin was way more sensitive than the rest – maybe that was just me I am only going from personal experience.

If you are gonna go for it discuss it with the surgeon who did the graph or a consultant before you let em at it with needles.

Let us know how you get on.

It sounds like you’re planning this tattoo just weeks after having surgery. Maybe I’m misinterpreting but you need to wait at least a year as previously stated.

    Hi,

I researched on this topic from one month and finally decided to get tattoo on my grafted skin.

Age : around 7 months old graft.

I know its not a good idea to get on fresh scar, and it should be healed and scar should be matured.

I felt its healed ( its about 2 X 2 cm graft not bigger one ) but scar wasn’t matured. Not sure, but tattoo looks fine on that. Will update the thread once its firm.

    Regards,
