I’m expecting a nice xmas bonus from work so I thought what better way to spend it than to get the tattoo that I’ve had the idea of for nearly 2 years but couldn’t afford? Great in theory. The glitch is that my drawing skills are limited to stick people that don’t even look like people! Verbally I can describe in great detail what I am after. I have been in to a few local studios after seeing their work on other people but after speaking to the artists I have found that no-one is getting my idea at all. Where am I going wrong with it & what do I need to do to get the design I am after?

It’s far too long winded to write down exactly what I’m describing to them but the basic gist is that I’m looking for the image of Persephone (from Greek mythology) as she descends from earth above to the underword, so maybe going into a cavern with a view of the overworld in the entrance, then as it gets towards the bottom having spirit like images ( think Edvard Munch – The Scream, that sort of thing but not a complete rip off!) & other dark things. I’m looking to cover the whole of my upper arm, so I have plenty of room to work with.

Any ideas how I can better get this across with someone who might be prepared to spend a bit of time doodling with me to explore the idea? I really would love to get something booked cos I know to get a decent artist round here I’m going to have to sit on a waiting list for a while but I’d really like to get the process started with one of them. I’ve only got a couple of good ones left to try so I thought I’d get suggestions before I run out of options.

    Thanks in advance.

There are so many styles to choose from… I’d be happy to help you with your tattoo design search. I’m on my iPod touch riht now answering posts but once I get back to my pc I’ll dig up some images for you and we can work from there. Specifics are good. Describe what Persephone looks like to you.. It’ll be a pleasure doing business with you and I know we’ll be able to find something to fit your idea.

thanks for the pic bigbud. I was looking for quite a classical figure. I have a picture in a book that gives quite a good idea of the figure I want.

I think the problem is more getting someone interested enough to work out the design with me then do the tattoo. It seems like no-one wants any business at the moment!

This Persephone is pretty similar to the look she has in my book, very pretty & innocent:

I was thinking the whole thing has to have a pretty creepy look, the ghouls are cool, but I think i’d have them with a few less teeth!

Thanks for finding them for me, you’re a huge help.

You’re very welcome. Now print off what you like and show your artist. Have them draw what you want and don’t settle!! Good luck.
