I was busy doing some net surfing and came across the BME site that has a large collection of luminous tattoos.
I am still in 2 minds about whether I actually like them or not – sure a glow in the dark tattoo would be a cool addition but…
I just think they look a little ‘lumpy’ many of them seem to be really thick lined and the skin seems to be very much raised. I am not sure if you can achieve fine details with it.
Anybody know what the ink they use is? Is it toxic? Does it fade?
I tried to get some net answers but the results seemed to be very vague and was wondering if anybody here has had any experience of them?
General thoughts on them would also be great.

Alot of artists are avoiding them. Apparently the ink actually doesn’t settle and has tendancy to move around under the skin, other talk about it being related to some form of skin cancer is out there also. I’m avoiding it at least for another 10 years or so until we get some good first hand feedback and long term results.
wouldnt touch it myself
based upon reading about them during the past 2 yrs, the uv inks are very thin and watery, and only glow under ultra violet light, so to work the tattoo you must do it under a uv lamp…… this light source must compromise your visibility and i should imagine that unless you are being super super careful, it could be easy to overwork the area.
as you may or may not be aware, any trauma to skin tissue could cause hypertrophic scaring better known as a keloid, that could be what you have seen, also some skin types will cause raised patchy areas if there is some form of allergy to the inks and also heat can cause the same results. as fore the thick outlining…. most people tend to get old pieces of work redone using uv over the top, and obviously an old tattoo will be losing its shape due to the trials of time, that could explain thick outlines.??
i am a very good friend of Karl the owner of K-Tattoo & K’s Premium Inks, he wont ever go into using or making them until they have been around long enough to be 100% certain they are safe…… if a manufacturer wont touch them then neither will I.
I have been asked on several occasions to do tattoos with uv inks, i refuse to do them and give them my oppinion based on Karls advice.
thatsj ust my 0.2 worth
ps… sorry for long post
