Hi everyone, new to the forum so hopefully I started the thread in the right section…
for my 18th birthday im getting a tattoo, I’ve always wanted to get my last name down my right side, is this a bad place to get my first tattoo?I don’t want to get something else because it wouldn’t be something I really want so i’ll tough it out but just looking for some suggestions on how to deal with the pain, thanks for the help..
Just grit your teeth and bear it man. You don’t want to be that guy who groans and whimpers and grunts throughout the process. Try talking to your artist while he works, or if you’re into reading and can hold a book one handed, just read your way through. Lord knows when I had a six hour sitting for my back piece I spent the lion’s share of it nose deep in a Terry Pratchett novel.
And honestly, yes, tattooing hurts, but it ain’t as bad as most people say, and honestly, it’s half the fun. It’s the price we pay to get into the club, and without it, tattoos would lose much of their mystic.
Also, punctuation is our friend, not our enemy.

Do it.
Hurts but its the only way. Bring your chick….show her how core you are haha, j/k.
Hi
From what I have been told the ribs and shins are about the most painful parts to get done as so close to the bone.
You will cope with the pain – much of it is in the mind. I won’t lie it does hurt but starts at a cat scratch upwards. You will not be laughing but doubt you will be flowing tears either.
Besides even if you do cry – no matter as long as you sit still. ๐
I would suggest that if it is your first one 3-4 hrs is more than enough. You can always go back for more. I always try and take a book or listen to some music.
Don’t be tempted with any aspirins, alcohol, or marijuana. The first 2 will make you bleed out more as they thin the blood. The smoke can also increase blood flow but you really need to be mentally focussed whilst having a tattoo done.
Good Luck
Matthew
as you have been warned about the niggling pain, and the dont use asprin, alcohol ot weed…. i would sugest that you have had a good full breakfast with plenty of carbohydrates and also a sugary drink, also take with you a fizzy drink such as coke, the sugar rush will help prevent your body going into natural shock as it is quite a large piece for your first one. an mp3 player could help, but try not to move your body to the beat.
dont forget to post pickies once you have had it done ๐
thanks for the advice anyone, much apreciated.
The tattoo artist I talked to told me it will only take an hour and a half to do the tattoo.. so hopefully he wasn’t mistaken and meant longer… lol
One more question, kinda an odd one but just lookin’ out for myself, lol..
alot of the guys I see with rib tattoos are all “ripped” with the abs and the V, I’m fit, but I dont have abs and barely a V. Do rib tattoos look bad if your not cut? of as long as your not like overwieght for your age it will look good? im 5’10” and 140 pounds, if that makes a difference to get the idea.
TIA
As long as you don’t have rolls, you’re fine, and as long as you don’t get them, you’ll continue to be fine.
So lay off the fried foods fatty ๐
