I have a meeting with my artist this Saturday and at first I was looking to just add to my left side piece. On my sides I have a single Chinese character, on the left it is a character that says “dedication” and on the right it says “genuine”
What I wanted to do was have a scene of a rising phoenix incorporating my “dedication” symbol. For example I was thinking of having the hands like in this picture grabbing trying to hold the phoenix down
But then using a phoenix like either of these styles
I like to have symmetry as I feel it’d just look weird with my left side done and on the right side I just have my single character and was wondering of any ideas that symbolize “genuine”
Here are my tats right now
or a phoenix style like this
Hi Hardhitter
I love the concept art you are looking at.
If I could offer some suggestions – then hands would look better if they were incoporated from flames and ash than actual flesh.
I would also suggest a burning trail from the tail that shows the rise of the phoenix and the searing of all things that would hold you back. (Hence the hands are on fire).
With regards to the genuine here are a few ideas;
A kneeling samurai with hand resting on the upright hilt of a katana. This represents the devotion and duty they had for their master which as wa genuine belief system (bushido).
You could also incoporate the symbol into the chest armour if you wanted a larger piece.
Another idea is maybe have the symbol in the open palm of a hand – which is the symbol of truth and being genuine – maybe pattern it up like hamza.
Certain cultures hold birds (mostly ravens or crows as the symbol of judgement)
You could perhaps incoporate some scales of justice and truth.
Good luck with the ink.

if you could somewhow capture this and use the colouring etc and blend it into your sides and down your hips etc it would look totally amazing.
i really really like this picture.
Bump, go in tomorrow wondering anymore suggestions!
i really really like this picture.
That would truly be something special – I’d love to see it if you go with that…
So it’s been a long time coming and I go in Saturday for the outline.
It’s going to run from my “V” on my side and up my left side and end/wrap near my back shoulder.
Hi
Looks like you are going to have a nice bit of ink when you are done.
Which artist are you getting it done by?
Post up pics as you progress would love to see how it comes on.

Camille Krilanovich. She owns CLK Tattoos in my area. Amazing person and she does some great work.
I’m thinking of maybe making the body/texture of the phoenix give off a little more of a “flame” like flow. You can get a picture of what I’m talking about in this tattoo that I found.
I think that we can keep the wings/feathers that she has and just modify it a little to look like it’s “flaming” like the one above. What do you guys think?
Did the outline today. She said I did a good job and was easy to work on because I didn’t move or any of that stuff. Only took 2 hours instead of the 3 that she thought it’d take.
Took a picture with my camera phone, doesn’t really show the tattoo very well or the detail. It’s also stretched a little because I have my arm going across my chest so you can see all of it in one picture.
I go in May 1 to do the depth/detail work
I have an idea regarding the “genuine” theme.
You could have a face removing an obscure mask or something.
Just a thought.
