I’ve got a tattoo on my right arm just above the elbow, but it’s not centered. I’ve had it for a long time and while I enjoy the tattoo i regret it being ‘lopsided’. I’m looking to have something added to it to make it look more balanced out across my arm.

I’ve asked two local parlors their advice, one blew me off and the other suggested having four wings sprout from the phoenix instead of two, with one side being twisted so as to be very thing and the other extended across the breadth of my arm to help center it out. I’m skeptical how it will look, but that’s as much because I haven’t seen anything similar to that to compare.

My own idea is perhaps trying to ink over the tatttoo a bit to give it the trailing tail/plumage so often associated with a phoenix, and to have it twist and curve along the right (left as you look at the image). However, I didn’t know if that could be done very easy with the black outline already existing around mine.

Anyone else have any other suggestions or ideas as far as expanding this? I’d prefer to not have two separate tattoos just to fill up the space – I’d rather it look like a single piece, so something that can be incorporated along those lines would be great.

Two images – one is a closer up to see the tattoo itself, the other is more zoomed out to give an idea of where it’s at on my arm. The close-up picture was done just after the tattoo healed a few years back and the other was taken today, if it matters.

    Hi

The easiest option is to wreathe the phoenix is flames and shadows/shading around the edges.

I would even add a burning pyre beneath it showing the phoenix being born and the flames srouting around it.

The tails and such would not be so hard to do if done by a decent artist.

A 4 winged phoenix ??- if you take any advice pls do not go back to that artist. Just based on that suggestion it sounds terrible advice to give.

Hi is there any chance of a photo taken from further away to see how the tattoo sits from a distance, it’s sometimes easier to picture this way 🙂

Sorry it took me so long to post a reply.

Here’s another photo that will hopefully give a better profile.

I like the idea of having fire/pyre with it. I searched for ‘pyre tattoos’ across the net, but didn’t really see any examples. I did search for flame tattoos and ran across several I like the styles of, although I’m not exactly sure they’d mesh with the way my tat is done.

I had also considered having a dragons head near the top of my arm (just below the shoulder, but on the vertical arm part) breathing fire downwards to the point of my elbow.

But my problem comes back every time – the phoenix still looks off centered. I know it is, but I’m hoping that something can be added to disguise its placement a bit.

I’d shop around a bit more if you’ve got more parlours about. It can’t hurt to visit some and get more advice, maybe even get an artist to sketch an idea on your arm, to see if you’ll like it…

with it being so firey looking i think the shading idea would work well, make it look real smokey .
but it looks really low , the only thing i can think of is having some sky above .

honestly speaking i dont digg the placement at all .
