I am thinking about getting a tattoo of my favorite song (“23” by Jimmy Eat World), and my friend and I are playing around with designs. I am not looking for anything huge since this would be my first tattoo, but I am also a straight male, so am a little worried about size (aren’t we all) and the fact that this looks suspiciously like a heart. At the same time, I think it’s pretty original and could settle for the heart-resemblance. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Yeah it does look a lot like a heart. To the passerby, it’ll look just like a heart unless you explain to them what they’re looking at. You might have to keep designing if you’re not 100% ok with people thinking it’s a heart.

If you’re unsure, don’t do it. Remember it’s for life.

Others opinions shouldn’t really matter. That’s OK in theory, but the reality is we do listen to others opinions. If you want my two penneth worth I think it looks like a unique take on a heart, rather than a unique take on 23. I would never guess it said 23 in a million years, sorry 🙁

    Hi

I saw the pic before I read the post and thought damn nice abstract heart tattoo there.

    Then I read the post…

My advice is keep on playing with designs and when you get to the one you really want you just know it. I would suggest pinning up the proposed design for a month and looking at it every day and thinking do i want this on me for life?

Also maybe use soem transfer paper and sketch out in pen the tat idea on yourself to give you an idea how it looks.

    Take Care

Thanks so much for the responses. I’m going to keep working on the design and I will post updates here to get more feedback.
