Hi,
I’m currently organizing my art from the past few years, and preparing some new artwork to present to local shops out of hopes of getting an apprenticeship. I was curious though, and if someone could answer this question, it would ease a lot of distress: Does the medium of art really matter? I have been familiarizing myself with Prismacolor markers, and detailing them with Prismacolor pencils, or watercolor washes. I tend to prefer inks over colored pencils, and feel they fully display my capabilities as an artist. I have a few friends who are in an apprenticeship already, and all of their stuff is done with pencils, and outline with zig tech pens. Would I be wrong for using primarily Inks and Markers for my sketchbook work?
Thanks,
-Dan
I think you should show a variety of work, to show that you are flexible in what you can do, some black & grey sketches etc, i wouldnt have just all colour as some people dont like colour tattoos and prefer just the black & grey.
Hi
As Izarrasink has sattd you need to be able to show you have skills in all mediums of drawing.
I would personally develop a portfolio that includes;
Black n shade pencil
Water Colours
Inks
Charcoal and crayons.
These should at least cover the 3 main areas of ;
Portrait/still life
Fantasy
Old School Flash
This will show the prospective artist that you can handle all mediums and styles of tattooing.
I wish you the best in your pursuit.
Take Care
Matthew
