…how long did it take you to get them done (whether it’s one arm or both) from the first sitting to the last? And also, how long after getting them completed was it before they were healed enough to the point that you were comfortable enough to go out and display them proudly in public?

My right arm is sleeved, but it wasn’t one piece. It was several smaller, unconnected works that were stylisticly similar enough that we were able to connect them with black inking in the “blank” spaces, thus unifying them into a whole.

Roughly speaking, to do my arm took about 36-40 hours, and cost me in the neighborhood of $1000, and for the time I got, I got one HELLUVA deal. To be fair though, maybe a little more than half the time was put into my Zombie Squid, which has some crazy detail in it.

As for when I showed them off, I did what I always do: showed them to any and everyone from day damn one, because everyone LOVES bloody ink 😀

They’re in my album–though I did my best to isolate each seperate piece in photoshop, so you don’t get the full sleeve effect.

But the ones on the same arm are the Zombie Squid, the wrist gauntlet, the kissing zombies (in that one you can see some of the squid’s tentacles), and the I feel pretty, which is kinda isolated (for now. There’s only one blank spot left, and I’ve already got a kick ass design to fill it in when I got the cash).

I assume you’re thinking about sleeving up?

No, not really. Just curious. I mean, if you look at the pics of my tats in my album, I don’t think there’s a way that I could turn them into sleeves that would look good, is there?

Oh, I had forgotten about them!

Yeah, you could totally sleeve that out if you covered those crooked kanji man–or just use the other arm.

That panther could be worked into an overall design pretty easily though, especially if you got with either a jungle or oriental theme.

The kanji looks “crooked” too you?! As in “not straight”?! I must be missing something here, because they have always looked straight to me. The only thing that I have been advised on that might be wrong with them is that the lines are a bit bumpy and the color is bad, but I’m actually going to get it redone by a better artist in about 2 weeks. I certainly don’t want to cover them, but you definitely think I should?! I mean, they look THAT bad?

Yes. I do. They are awful.

But I’m biased–even if it wasn’t done badly (which you obviously know since you’re getting it fixed), I’d still think it sucks. Text only tattoos are boring and bland. Remove their accessibility by making them those ugly assed Asian letter deals, and it becomes just meaningless blobs of black.

Besides, even when they’re not ugly (and yours are), everybody has fricken kanji. Go into a Sorority House and half the vapid bitches there will have’em on the back of their necks under their hair, behind their ears, or otherwise impossible to see unless they’re purposely showing them. It’s a way to rebel in a trendy way, and that’s what most of us associate even the well done Kanji is–trendy little fuckers who don’t understand what tattooing is.

I can see where you’re coming from with the mindset that Kanji script is a fad, but shit! 😮 I didn’t think mine were crooked! I’ve NEVER noticed them to be crooked and I’ve NEVER had anyone point out to me that they might look crooked! I’ve always thought they look perfectly straight!

    Hi

I don’t have sleeves but from my research everybody I have spoken with who has a full sleeve has put in a min of 30 hours.

Many are in the 40-50 hrs bracket.

Most arms can be sleeved if you find the right theme and style as you are filling the space on your arm with an artistic idea.

Many go for a single piece but several linked pieces also work well. Your s could be worked in with an oriental or african/jungle theme with no cover-ups.

I responded to the Kanji thread on how yours looks.

KH raised some interesting points about likes and dislikes on the type of tattoos ppl have.

He hates kanji for his stated reasons.

I cannot condemn him as I personally have a hatred for people who get Love/Hate on their knuckles, teardrops, or shitty cobwebs on their elbows.

This just screams prison ink to me. That said that is just my personal opinion that is not worth anything.

    Wear your ink with pride.

    Take Care
