I’ve got an appointment at 12:00 today to get my Kanji script on my left arm touched up, and it’s been 3 years since I’ve gotten any tats or touch ups, so I’ve forgotten some of the aftercare guidelines.

This Saturday it’s supposed to be Sunny, breezy and possibly 80 (from what my wife heard, but I heard only 72). With getting my tat touched up today, is there ANY way I can have it out in that sunlight this weekend or not a chance? Also, since I’ve forgotten, how long do I have to keep it out of sunlight?

You are best keeping it covered until you get home.
Then wash it gently and apply chosen form of cream.

I then usually apply a sterile non-stick dressing for the first 12-24 hrs to make sure it has stopped bleeding and has clotted properly. Then let it breathe.

A loose fitting cotton or silk shirt should be enough to cover it in moderate sunlight but if you are heading into baking sun might be better applying a loose temporary dressing (non-stick) and take off every 4-6 hrs to let it breathe a bit in the shade.

Tattoos shouldnt really be put into sunlight at all (which is pretty much impossible) but you should keep out of intensive sunlight for at least 14 days – although 6 weeks is the optimal so all sub-dermal healing is done.

Some ppl of course say what the hell and don’t cover them.

    Hope that helps

    Take care

That does help. Thanks! Just to play it safe, I’ll most likely follow the time frames given to me today by the tattoo artist, but I wanted to come here to get some additional opinions.
