    Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help me;

    I had a new tattoo on the back of my right upper arm 6 days ago and have looked after it well using bepanthan 3 times a day as recommended.

    I haven’t saturated the tattoo or picked or knocked it in anyway yet it has peeled on its own in patches and the red ink looks a very pale shade of pink.

    I have done some research on the internet about this and have seen several posts that say the red will return after the tattoo is fully healed by the uncertainty is driving me crazy and I can’t stop bloody looking at it worrying!

    Has anyone on here experienced a similar problem? Or can anybody offer me some advice / reassurance?

    Don’t worry to much! it’s completely normal.. The skin on top is simply sloughing away, flaking off. The actual ink is injected deeper. It will look kind of pale for awhile even in a week from now, depends on how your body heals. I would wait a full 2-3 weeks to actually judge the tattoo. You’ll be fine!

    Thanks for that. I feel a bit better about it now, just worried the hell out of me!

    I suppose I can always get it touched up if I need to.

    Thanks again.

    Hi

    Best way to think of it is like a hot buttered crumpet.

    You smear on a stack of butter and turn your back and all the butter is gone leaving only a small smear on the top. This is because it has been soaked into the pores of the crumpet, so when you bite it you can feel all the butter on the inside.

    Well a tattoo is the same. Your epidermis (top layer of skin) is actually covered in thousands of dead skin cells that slough off as they are replaced by a new layer.

    The ink gets injected into the dermis (lower level of skin). This is means that your body is like a sponge soaking up all the ink and holding it in place beneath the surface.

    When it has healed you have gone through several top layers of skin so that the new skin (containing the ink) will look a lot paler before it is fully healed. This is because the ink has now fully locked into the skin and will show through properly.

    Damn I am hungry.

    Take Care
