Scarification – a form of body modification whereby skin artists cut clients’ flesh with scalpels and other sharp objects to create permanent scars in the name of art.

Professor David Castle – “People want to push the envelope a little bit, there’s a bit more of a wow factor than there is with tattoos, because tattoos might be a little passe now”

Under Victorian laws, scarification practitioners do not need to be accredited or to attain a set level of experience before cutting someone. Nor are there any provisions to stop them performing scarification on customers who are intoxicated, insufficiently informed to give consent or unfit to give consent.

I got this out of a newspaper article, and it shows a couple pictures of people with it done, and it looks like they’ve been tattooed in a dark pink colour.

Well, im going to go ahead and assume that this is something were age isn’t a huge concern. That being said Kids are stupid and if this is the case then there is a possibilty that this could be a problem. As for older people getting this done, I say go ahead your body do what you want

    a little weird though

You do realize you could replace Victorian Laws with most American States Laws, scarification with tattooing, cutting with inking, and you’ve just described the state of tattooing in most American states, right?

It’s why word of mouth is so damn important to tattoo shops and piercing parlors–it’s the only way for a dude off the street to know who he can trust not to give him arm herpes with a reused needle.

As for scarification itself–it’s not my bag, but if you want it, get it. I won’t pretend to understand, but then again, I don’t need to, it’s you body.

    Love. Peace. Metallica.

Actually I have always wondered what came first scarification or tattooing.

Because skin breaks down so fast after death it was very difficult to tell when either actually started. The earliest tattoos are around 10000 BC or so.

My thoughts are that scarification came before tattooing as many would have simply cut patterns into the skin and perhaps later thought to add some form of dye.

Just conjecture really as I have not been able to find any conclusive proofs.

As for the practice I have seen many who are into heavy scarification and frankly it frighetns the shit out of me.

Some dude working me over with a scalpel and no anaesthetic is something from my inner nightmares. 😮

I do not condemn people who like this type of art, but personally I don’t like it, preferring tattoos over scarification. I already saw some amazing works in this area, by the way.

*Puts down his rusty scalpel and saw in disgust*

Joker you really know how to tease and get ppl’s hopes up. :p

I insist that I try out some scarification on you – I promise we will start small say a whole arm or leg – you will have plenty of skin left on the rest of your body for graphs if it goes wrong.

    Hahaha sorry Matt 🙂

But just for you, you can scar-a-rize me, but we’ll start with an area that can be hidden easily ok, say the face?
