As I stated in a different thread, I want to get a tattoo of my children’s portraits on my right arm. Now I asked some parents on a forum whether they would ever do that. The response I got the most was that it was “tacky”. Tacky? It is an expression of what means most to me. An expression of my love. Has this country become so materialistic that expressions of art are now seen as “tacky”? It boggles my mind.
I just wonder if photo’s would be far more meaningful, the thing with portraits is the clarity of photography or the creativeness of a painting would be in my book at least much more poignant and would stand the test of time. A tattoo is for the lifetime of the canvas, good luck Hoani
my aunt got a portrait of her two daughters tattooed on her leg right above the ankle. it was from a pic taken of them together and turned out very nice. make sure you go to someone who specializes in portraits! my only problem with getting a portrait of my children is what age do you do it? they grow and change so much over the years that it would be hard to choose what age would be the right time…for me anyway! her youngest daughter already looks much different than the portrait and if you didn’t see the pic you’d think they had done her an injustice…but its perfect with the picture. i don’t think its tacky at all and its all about what you want to wear on your body! just realize that if they are young…they will quickly look different than the tat! even as teenagers they change so much…
Sorry I meant to say photo, it will be of a photo of my children.
i just saw a woman in notts the other day that had a black and grey portrait of her son tattooed on her inner forearm and i was jealous . i personally thought it looked really good and would consider doing it myself one day as i have the perfect photo of my son that i would use ..
if people think its tacky sod them, maybe they are the sort of people that would only have a tiny butterfly or rose on their shoulder ..
Just find the right artist thats the biggest part !!
