Hi guys,
I am going to get my first tattoo(s) very shortly in the future.
Here is the first design
.. However, I took this design to the parlour and he reckons its not quite good enough and not clear enough to tattoo and probably needs redrawing, he said he would do it for a deposit, but says I’d be better of searching the net for similar designs.
Have any of you guys got an opinion, how can i redraw this? (its going to go on bicep-upper arm)
… Also secondly, I am thinking of getting a tattoo in fancy writing saying “Est 1990” down the inside of my left arm.. what you think?? …what writing looks best?? etcetc/
Thank you for any feedback.
Liam
any help, advice, tips, etc would be a huge help. cheers guys 🙂
sounds like he just wonts to copy the pic straight on to the stencil but it looks easy enough to draw it
just found it on google
is that any better ???
Hi
You could try a trace of the orig picture and see how it comes out.
Alternatively there are thousands of tribal designs that can be seen on flash sheets or as tattoos on the internet and if you have a decent artist they should have no problem putting together a tattoo based off the picture you have seen.
Since it is your first tattoo I will be more than happy to send you my free ebook/manual on tattooing basics to give you some insight into what to look for. Just send me a PM of your email.
As for the Est 1990 – I have to say that personally I am not keen on it because just about everybody I know who got a similar tattoo ‘mom/dad’ ‘Made In England’ ‘Born 1977’ etc etc all of them have since have them covered up when they reached their late 20’s or early 30’s as they had outgrown the tattoo.
If you really want it doing check out the fonts download on Outlaw’s forum as there are hundreds to choose from or take a look at this site I use as examples of text tattoos.

The key bit is make the text fairly large so that it does not shrink and blob with age.

I’ve got a couple of things for you. first, the picture is simple to reproduce, exactly as you have it. There are two ways to do it. First, print it our the size you want it, put it on a light box and trace it. Whole process takes about ten minutes start to finish. Second is upload it to Photobucket, resize it to a larger pixel size, say 1,000 by 1,000 then edit effects by clicking on the sketch option. It will turn it into a line drawing you can then take to the tattooist. Save the picture to your computer once it is modified, print it the size you want it and take it to the tattooist.
Here,s the second thing though. Tattoos are for life. Even if you get it covered up ten years from now, you are still packing it around. You need to really think through what you are getting and make sure its what you want to live with for the next 60 years or so.
Tattooing is a means of expressing something inside of us that we find a hard time expressing with words. Tattoos can accentuate natural beauty, make a rebellious statement, or tell a story, but in the end, you are a canvas for the artist, and in my house when I get tired of a piece of art I can pull it down, stick it in the closet and replace it.
You can’t. What you put on your skin says something about you forever. Make sure it is what you want said.
I guess what I am saying is that at 20 years of age my advice to you is to think hard before you take a picture of somone else’s tattoo, copy the pattern and put it on yourself. Think long and hard. Is that the best choice for you? What are you trying to say with your ink, and does this say it. More important, is this what you will want to say a decade from now.
Just my 2 cents for what its worth.
