I definitely am aware that sunlight can damage or fade a tattoo. Is this because of the UV rays in the sunlight or is it just light in general? Is all light bad for a tattoo, including indoor light coming from an ordinary lightbulb?

The reason I ask is because at home for my healing tattoo, I’m not sure if it’s better to keep a sleeve loosely covering the tattoo to protect it from the light or to go sleeveless/shirtless in the house to let it be uncovered. And just in general, I have a tendency to go shirtless around the house and wondering if I should be more aware long term that all light can damage it.

Does the answer change much if it’s a healed vs unhealed tattoo?

just sunlight , the only light in your home that could also damage your tattoo is if you have a home sun bed

That’s what I figured, but I wanted to be certain.

    Hi

It is UV and UB light that affects ink as it breaks down the cells in the skin which in turn loosen the pockets of ink in your tattoo as the skin breaks down allowing the body to flush it away.

Only natural light or sunbeds can do this normal house lighting is fine.

    Take care
