I saw an episode of miami ink were one of those guys got a hand poked maori tattoo on him and he said it hurts a little more, but not much difference.

Never had one either,but i saw atattoo documentry on discovery,and it looks rough!
Feet are a little touchy anyway;)

From what I remember about some documentary (maybe the same one strick9 mentione) they are a bit more painful.

BUT…
The shading they can achieve is impossible with a conventional tattoo machine.

One of the artists at the studio im having my back done has been to Japan 3 times for a full front dragon which he is having done via stick method.

He says it hurts a bit more than normal but generally it takes a bit longer.

The outline and shading is very different to that of a machine as well close up – nice but more layered.
