Hey, sorry I know this is very vague but I am just trying to get an idea of how much it will cost to get from below my shoulder to just above my elbow sleeved? I am pretty small and slim so there isn’t a huge amount of space, also I’ll be keeping it all black shading. So taking this in to consideration, can anybody please give me a rough estimate? Sorry if this is too vague.

for large pieces most charge by the hour and the amount of time it takes depends on detail, color, shading, etc… I’ve been researching prices recently for a half sleeve that I’m planning and the artists I have talked to have been quoting an average of between $500 and $1000 sometimes going up to $2000, before seeing ideas for the design. so its going to be difficult for you to get a good estimate without going in with your ideas or artwork and talking to an artist.

Find an artist you like and talk it over with him. From what you described it would be a half sleeve, not a quarter sleeve. Also depends if your actually going to do the sleeve the correct way which includes the inner arm as well.
Thanks, sorry I thought a half-sleeve was from above the shoulder to the elbow. Yeah I want to get it done proper the whole way around the arm but money is a bit if a factor at the moment. I think $500 max would be all I could afford to put in to a tattoo at the moment. I am gonna be in New York for the whole summer and was really hoping to get some work done while there. I was thinking though, what if I got say half the upper arm done and the rest at some other time? Is this advisable since most likely it would be a totally different artist finishing it off? I guess if I was only to get half my upper arm and not the full way around, then I could afford the work. My arms are also pretty short and I’m not very muscle bound 😀 I’m guessing half the area might be around 6 inches, dunno am bad as guessing measurement.
I’m currently in progress of a half sleeve. I started it in January and I had two sessions thus far, with about 2-4 to go.
Mine is a coverup so it took longer for my artist to freehand and work around to get the point I’m at now but I have about $500 worth already put into it with only 2 sessions (tips and down payments included), but that’s in a span of 3 months.
Like I said, I probably have 2-4 sessions left with yet ANOTHER touch up to be included (one session healed bad.)
You figure I still have another $5-600 dollars total to go into it, so overall I’m looking $1,000 dollars total.
Of course, you can pay at the speed of what you could afford at the time and break it up, making it affordable, but I’d say when all said and done, set aside in your mind that it’ll cost you around $1,000 dollars minimum for the WHOLE shabang. (Note: Could be more or less depending on color and the amount of shading as well, depends on the artist.)
Large pieces like sleeves is hard to put an estimate on. There are alot of things that can affect the price of your sleeve. color or black and gray and most importantly who your tattooist is. large pieces are usually charged by the hour. seasoned and busy tattooist can charge up to 250 an hour, but i think the average is around 150 per hour (im in the wrong business). the easiest way is to find a tatooist and ask how much he charges per hour. but remember you get what you pay for. My tattooist charges $225 to a full session, which is 4 hours. She goes mainly by the size and color of the tattoo. Her quality is through the roof and she’s very kind and reasonable in her prices. Indeed, it’s ALL about the artist.
