As i dont know much behind tattoo’s it’s probably quite a novice question,
But when people have the koi fish, does it have any specific meaning?
Do different colours mean anything?
And i hear witht eh koi you are only ment to have it point in a certain direction?
Thankyou guys (:
Google it…there’s way too many things to explain here. It’s probably the easiest way to google Koi fish meaning or koi fish tattoo and read from there.
People get koi for different reasons only known to them. But the traditional story behind koi is kinda cool. Koi swim up stream in the yellow river. When they get to this waterfall and go over it, they turn into a dragon. That was the cliff note version. koi are usually swimming up the body. But really you can get koi any way you want. Hope this helps.

Actually, as far as I’ve read, the ones that aren’t worthy to become dragons have to swim back down river, so although it’s not exactly forbidden to point their faces downwards, it’s a bit of a taboo and just not done so much 🙂
Coy (Kio) means carp in Japanese; a Carp Fish is what western’s recognise more easily. Depending on your views, a Coy swimming up means luck, fortune. Swimming down means ambition, perspire and goals in life. Coy’s are all different colours, depending on which part of the world you live, most western countries use a lot of blue orange more bright colours. Traditionally; there red, white more darker spectrum.
And don’t be fooled, get a traditional Coy with the body not so rounded. You may have seen Coy’s with criss cross scales and a head the shape of a penis. Boo! get real. keep it real 🙂
I have a Koi Fish… it means strength and perseverance…. its the only fish in china that can swim upstream up the mountains and the story behind it is once it reaches the top of the mountains it turns into a dragon, hope this helps…

I’m in the process of getting my first tattoo, which is of a Koi swimming up my arm and a Dragon perched on my shoulder and onto my back.
I recently went through some difficult times in my life, but have come out of it a better and stronger person. The tattoo is symbolic of the transformation that I went through and will serve as a reminder of what it took to get to where I am today. For me, the colors of the Koi have no particular meaning.
Luck, fortune, transformation, prosperity, new beginnings etc are usually the intended meaning but like with all Japanese mythology you will find a million and one variations.
The body shape doesn’t matter. It’s like with all art, it evolves over time. Big fat fish aren’t ‘correct’ and thinner ones aren’t ‘inncorrect’. If you get a skinny fish it runs the risk of looking like a gold fish. The bodies are usually rounder because they are outstandingly powerful swimmers (hence the swimming up the golden river story).
Also never in the history of anything have they ever been called ‘coy’ it is ‘koi’. Call them ‘Coy’ and you’ll look like a fool.

Coy is the species known in Australia and most of the UK, A Carp is more South East Asia.
Maybe. From what I’ve read ‘coy’ and ‘coi’ just appear to be incorrectly spelled ‘koi’, that’s all. God it’s all so damn confusing! lol
Koi is Japanese for Carp
Carp is the species
Coi and Coy is spelt refering to Koi or Carp
, it’s confusing alright.
Man, they don’t make it easy do they? A million and 1 meanings a million and 1 spellings. Why don’t we just say ‘fish’ much easier :p
It just wont have the same meaning.
let’s call it the Super Wonder Fish!
Brilliant! Now we just need to get OP to change their post and everyone will understand lol
