Hi there, I’m new to this forum but would like to try and get some ideas and a bit of advice about extending my current tattoo into a half sleeve design.
I currently have a Polynesian style face on the inside of my left bicep, and I want to add to it and get a half sleeve which will fit around the existing one.

I really like the idea of getting a ‘lifeline’ incorporated into it. I kind of line which will run down from the top of my shoulder and snake across my arm and inside of it I want to incorporate into it the people who are most important to me in my life: my parents, sisters and my nieces and nephews. And then to leave room to add to this should I ever get married and have children. As well as this I would perhaps like to incorporate maybe my star sign or date of birth at the top of the line.
Now I don’t want these names, initials etc. to be obvious, rather I want them to blend in and form part of the larger design and only really be obvious when looking closely at the sleeve, because I don’t want it to shout out too much but be a bit more subtle. I have seen some Samoan designs which have this and this is where I have got the inspiration. The most famous example I have seen was footballers Tim Cahill who has a lifeline with the names of his children, parents etc incorporated into his overall design which I really like.
Obviously I’m not going to copy his design, I’m just using his as an example and whatever design I settle on must complement the existing one I have had for nearly 2 years now. Having read some of the other threads on here it seems like a good place to start for inspiration, so any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
The lifeline would be a good idea, but I think with a lot of names incorporated in a larger tattoo it could looked clustered.
What about just getting symbolic images for each person and incorporating them together? That could leave room for a lot of creativity and some pretty rad designs.
Thanks for the suggestion, i quite like the idea of the symbols.
the original design i was thinking about would have the initials of my family, but they would be hidden into the overall tattoo, so that from a distance you would not see them until you got up close. Here is the original tattoo which gave me the idea:

this is not the best picture but if you look closely you can see the initals in the lifeline

anymore hint, tips or suggestions are welcome!
Hi
I have seen some where in the Polynesian style they have used images of animals such as water turtles and such and hidden the initials or name within the shell or body of the animal.
Others have had the gods or goddesses depicted with the names incorporated into the clothes/staffs/jewelery as part of the design.
It really is a matter of finding a design you like and seeing how you can wrap the names into the design – it is not so hard as long as you get the font right.
Take care
Matthew
