It’s a small, simple tattoo, but it’s something that is a family thing so I’ve wanted to do it for about 3 years now and finally went a week ago to get it done. Went to a local shop that was suppose to be extremely reputable. The artist that did it had been tattooing for 30 years so I was comfortable letting her do it. Heard a lot of good things about her. She was super nice and very informative. She did it, and I noticed right away that it wasn’t straight and I wasn’t happy as soon as it was done. She told me to let the swelling go down and then look at it and see if I was still unhappy. Well I let the swelling subside and it’s still not close to being straight, the lines aren’t sharp and generally it looks bad. So I called her and asked if we could straighten it up and touch it up when it heals and she said that “Tattoo’s are organic and that they aren’t suppose to be perfect”… WTF?!?!?! Seriously? Soooo, now I’m stuck with this. A crooked cross on my wrist for all to see.

I’ve talked to a couple friends who have tattoo’s and a couple other artists in town and they say that because it’s simple, small, black and new that it should be really easy to touch up and make straight so that nobody will ever know. So I wanted to come on here and get you guys’/girls’ opinions???

Is this fixable so that it won’t be noticeable? I’m really bummed that it turned out this way, been wanting it for a LONG time…

Thanks for the advice in advance.

The top is indeed crooked but imho, when someone screws up something so simple, I would go to someone else for a touch-up.

Took you 3 years to work up to this?

Well, the reason it took 3 years was because I was still in college finishing up and knew that I wanted it on my wrist. I wanted to wait until I was out and had gotten a few promotions before I tattooed something on such a visible place. So I waited… Just didn’t want this to be a reason that I didn’t get a job if that makes sense.

And yeah, I’m not going back to the same person. I’m going elsewhere for them to fix it. But they shouldn’t have any problems fixing it to where you can’t tell?

And is it normal to look like that while healing? It’s been exactly 1 week as of today.

ah ok. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yeah I still won’t get anything below the elbows due in part to work, but also due to the fact that I am a huge outdoorsman and anything I get there would get faded very quickly.

None at all. They would likely just make it a hair larger to even it out.

It looks a little overworked to me right in the middle of the cross. You’ll have to wait and see how it turns out but it looks ok.

btw your artist is right in saying that no tattoo is perfect, but in this case, she’s just using that line to cover up her shoddy craftsmanship.

Well it’s truth that no tattoos are perfect. 100% symmetrical or straight lines are impossible in tattoing except in perhaps one body position out of a million since the skin is a living organism and constantly being stretched in all ways, distorting the image.

Your tattoo, however, is just very poorly done.

A small simply cross is a family thing that took you 3 years to do? Yes its fucked up but small simply stuff is the hardest stuff to do. there is no room for error. Relax even if it was perfect it’s a pretty lame tattoo.
