I wanted to set up a thread to chronicle my wife’s back piece.
First, she had some existing tribal designs on her back. She wanted them joined into one large tribal in the middle of her back (check). She wanted verticle kanji on the left side for earth, wind, water, fire (check). Then she wanted wind flowing through it. Here is where the idea went to hell. Obviously this guy had never done wind. She was going for something like this
But she got something like this
She was so depressed. She hated it so much. So she searched the web for a coverup specialist and found one named Pabby at Archangel tattoo in Nashville. We went up on Friday night. This place was awesome. The staff was friendly and professional.
After talking with Pabby for about an hour, we concluded that to correct the wind would be a half-assed fix. So a full coverup was in order. Earlier in the day I had suggested a dragon weaving its way through her other tattoos. She was diggin that idea. We ran it by Pabby. He said that he could do, and then he took a lot of time showing us his idea. He even sketched on my back to show her what he had in mind.
So this is now going to be a HUGE tattoo requiring multiple sessions. Jaime sat for 4 hours Friday night to get the line work done. She’s tough. We will head back in two weeks to begin the gray shading. Then two weeks later for the color. It is going to be very bright and vivid against the black/gray tribal. I can’t wait to see it finished. Here is the line work.
Session 2
Session three (Current)
She has another session of color. Also, there will be scroll added around the kanji to make it appear as though it is hanging on her back
*gobsmacked* That’s turning out absolutely stunning – wow! Yes, I can understand the dissappointment of the “wind” that was done… but then again, if the wind hadn’t turned out the way it did, she wouldn’t be having this amazing dragon design… and it really is awesome.
What a cover up!
The colours are so vibrant against the black/grey…. Great work that looks stunning. Keep us posted.
Wow, I think the coverup is BY FAR greater than it ever would have looked, even if the wind had come out right.
For me, I say fate stepped in and took care of a problem being brewed 🙂
there is a reason for everything ,.. if the wind never got fucked up then she would have never had this !!!
awesome work !!
looking really nice now , gosh i would be depressed by the *wind* tattoo also.
Personally, I’m not an amazing fan of complete back pieces but that is absolutely amazing. Really digging that.
WOW. I think getting the wind done so badly is one of the best things that could’ve happened to her :p
Considering the AMAZING tattoo she’s getting now!
That looks totally awsome.
Holy cow! What a brave woman! That “wind” tattoo was embarrassing indeed and I love the way the coverup turned out.
WOWA WEE WA!!! thats an amazing coverup loving it man, tell your wife its awesome
