I got a tribal dragon tattooed on my back when i was 18, now im not too happy with the art work, or the quality of it. i’ve been looking for a while on what i’d like to get to cover it up but haven’t been able to find a pic around what i wanted but i finally did, but now im worried this wont cover it up properly?
this is what i want to get, a general picture of it, but it would be mainly the upper half of it, lowest to the bottom of the wings

I guess the wings and sword might be a problem since they’re not filled but the rest of him is dark and you’d need a lot of background to fill the space inbetween and around. But the picture of your back is so tiny that it’s really difficult to see what you’re dealing with.
definately need to see a much larger image of the piece on your back before anyone able to comment/advise you ๐
Looking back and forth at your back and the Reaper you want covering it, it will CERTAINTY, without a doubt work. If you choose the right artist that specializes in coverups, it could be done quite easily.
Both images are similiar in shape and your artist could use your back piece as kind of like a map, or skeleton anatomy if you will as a guideline to the cover up. The wings might have a different shape but other than that, lots of black and LOTS of shading will do the trick. PLUS, it’s going to be HUGE. Maybe 2-3 sessions. It could be done for sure with amazing results.

Take you new design to your Tattoo artist of choice they may have to re-draw it to cover all parts of your old tattoo
BTW: Who is the girl in your photo album? You know we can all see her right? LOL
um…. no i didn’t know that actually… thats my wife… lol….
ok thanks, how do i find a person good with cover ups? i read somewhere that pictures aren’t always the best way to judge?

i will def be getting this soon… just have to go to several different shops to get the best artist, and see what we should do…
I’m in the military when i get this cover up, it wont have to come up on my neck right? my uniform regulations don’t allow that…. im sure we’ll be able to work around it but just trying to use the expertise on this site:cool:
Looks like you are definately going to be upgrading. Can’t wait to see the new work.
Good luck on finding an artist. I think it will look awesome. Keep us posted

I hope you don’t mind me taking your tat, but I quickly trimmed it to the size of your back VS the image you’d want it to transform into. I put the image several times over your back tattoo to determine where and how the coverup would would take place or as to how I would do it. As you can see, the shape is almost perfect for this style of coverup.
The only thing that could be different, and maybe into the eyes of different stylist of tattooist, the wings would have to be drawn a little bit more improvised as to how they will lay on the Reaper, but other than that, it would have to be big and wide enough to cover the middle area’s incorporated with a different style of wings, and black and gray’s would certainly do most of the coverup, as well as certain details and shadowing going around the bottom half of the Reaper (something like smoke if you will as an example.)
It would be a big tat, but get the right measurement and starting point to where you don’t have to worry about going across your neckline. If this can be matched, which should easily, this would be a kickass tattoo when all said and done, IMO. Good luck and DEF update us.
i don’t mind at all, thanks for the art cutting, lol, thankfully they match up really well, will this tattoo have to be solid black, because i kinda want to put some blue shading in with the wings and red with the sword, would i be able to do this? i’ll probably be going in and looking at places this weekend…
Shading in with blues and reds shouldn’t be a problem, but it might just have to be that.. shading because you don’t want the underneath parts of the old tattoo peaking through your sword so to speak. Red is a color that may not coverup a blue under piece as big as yours, but shading mixed in with red coloring will do the trick. Your tattooist will go over this all with you as far as what colors will be able to use on certain parts, but I don’t see you running into any problems. You’ll certainly have fun with this piece.
You should try to cover up those pics of your wife too! ๐
Seconded, haha. ๐
