Just wanted to show you all my first tattoo which I got on Saturday. It’s been planned for a few years and I finally found the right artist in Russia, so I went there to get it done. I know it sounds crazy to some, but I figure that if I’m branded for life, it better be a quality brand! :p
It was one 8 hr sitting. It’s peeling now, but I can’t resist posting a picture. I might post another one later when it’s healed, one that isn’t so fuzzy too!
The tattoo is of my cat and I took the original picture. My interest in animals has been a constant in my life and I wanted to celebrate that.
That is just AWESOME right there.
Will be great seeing better pics once it’s healed.
Wow, that thing is amazing. Who was the tattooer? Congrats on the awesome ink.
Patrick
wow, if i could afford to travel like that to find an amazing artist i would. unfortunately, my budget causes me to stay local. that is a nice piece you have there, wear it proud
Thanks guys! When I saw the work of Den Yakovlev, I knew he was the guy for this particular tattoo. When it comes to realism, I’m just compromise – I’d rather not have a tattoo! I’m also a big fan of Robert Hernandez (ES) and Carlos Torres (US).
Den has a unique control over depth of field as well as shading.
You can check out some of his other tattoos here.
great – worth the travelling !!
now THAT is a beautiful and realistic tattoo!
This type of tat is what keeps me coming back here. Great work, you should be really proud! Pimp your artist out a bit, does he have a site?
Thanks guys, I’m so pleased with it and the picture doesn’t do it justice at all. Can’t wait to show it to you when it’s healed!
Here’s the fresh version, taken last Sunday.
What can I say – that is one beautiful piece of work, no wonder you are proud of it, and such a pretty kitten too.
yea, i keep comin back to this thread to look at it again. rare to find work with that much detail so lifelike! absolutely amazing.
Some follow up questions:
How long did this take, how many sittings?
How much did it cost (sorry if that’s rude, I’m in contact with him about something similar which is why I’m asking)?
Did you go in with a photo?
Is he in Moscow?

It took 8 hrs and one sitting (yeah, pretty hardcore for a first!).
I’m not going to reveal what I paid as I think he would have set a higher price had he known how big it was going to be – he decided last minute that it should be bigger than originally planned – which I agreed on, but he didn’t charge more. Regardless, I thought the price level was very reasonable.
I did go in with a photo which I had also emailed him when first contacting him. You should know that his English is limited and he uses an online translator when emailing. Made it difficult to have phone contact in Moscow, but once we were face to face it was easier.
And yes, he’s in Moscow and I flew in to have it done. 🙂 If you’re going, be advised that obtaining a visa can be a real pain in the ass.
Thanks for all the info! I’m not going to fly there but I’m trying to get myself a spot for when/if he comes here. He doesn’t have any plans to come but I’m sure he’ll be here eventually.
Seriously amazing stuff. One of the best portfolios I have seen.
