Hi,
The story goes a little something like this…..
I had the idea once for a tattoo of a dragon which ran from my left shoulder across my back & onto my right chest, when I tried to draw it on it didn’t work so I then went with a dragon on the left side coming around my arm & over my shoulder. Then after one to many episodes of Miami ink came in with a dragon in the same shame as the one I was thinking of & Garver did a tiger going dowe his right side looking up at the dragon & making eye contact.
BINGO! However with 2 dragons, the first one chillin’ & the second one with his mouth open looking aggressive. Sort of like a half good half evil thing? Anyway 35 hours of work later I was wearing this…..
For good measure I had a peony done on the inside of my “good” side & a skull (was going to be a hannya but my tattooist talked me out of it) on the “evil” side…
I’ve now several years later decided to get full sleeves & have always had the design for the “good” side which is of a koi fish & koi dragn, which are swimming up my arm & also kind of tells the story of how the koi fish swims up the river & turns into a dragon.
Thing is I am stuck for what to get on the other (evil) side, I am not sure I want a hannya on full display all the time? (Although I could get it on the back of my arm). If the hannya was on the inside of my bicep I was planning a skull & snake but already now have & skull & also have a snake & tiger on my back which kind of rules those two out.
I was thinking maybe a phoenix as I guess you could make it look evil but I am not sure the space is the right shape for it. At the end of the day I guess it doesn’t have to be evil but would be nice to follow the theme on but I am at a loss so am open to suggestions.
Cheers,
Stuart
Does it have to be an animal? If you want evil you should look at Horiyoshi III’s 100 demons book.
Hi
There is a wealth of material as many spirits were seen as malicious in folklore – check out the shapeshifters.
Okami were spirit wolves that hid themselves in a female shape tearing out of the skin to devour their victims.
Could have a geisha style woman transforming into a demon wolf as one example.
There were also fire spirits hat would take the form of a monk in cowl in shape.
Well worth checking out.
Take care

why would u rule out a skull or snake ? you have two dragons.
Possibly not, I have 100 demons & 108 heroes, demon thing is a bit evil to be on display all the time (plus I don’t think it really goes with what I’ve already got).

Got any links mate, google isn’t turning much up….
Yes but the two dragons both play off each other & were designed together, not sure I see the point of just putting another skull on the same arm “because”.
have you asked your artist?
Yeah but he seemed very pissed off at the time so figured I’d leave it alone.
Normally I plan them to make sure I know what I want & then let him do his thing as I know he’ll smash it. Plus if he wants to change bits I listen as he knows best.
I doubt I’ll get another session done for a month but will see what he has to say next time.
